No unrest in Luxor

We visited at the end of Jan/start of Feb 13 and despite alarming reports of unrest in the north, there was absolutely no evidence of it in Luxor. Indeed the locals were quick to condemn it as it is driving the tourists away.

The bottom line is-get yourself to Luxor now, it is beautiful historic location and bustling with fabulous people, who deserve your custom.

It is miles away from Cairo and any trouble.

Ras2 - "Most of the time its not us who live here who may give incorrect information or pick through posts but those who maybe thousand of miles away and visit a couple of time a year. "

Sadly, most ex-pats on this forum add less value than the very visitors you mock - the ones spending their hard earned money in Luxor only twice a year. These visitors seem far more informed and reliable on every aspect affecting tourists - from the price of taxis for a day to how to deal with hassle. The only thing that some ex-pats are consistent at is disrupting threads and claiming everyone is exaggerating when any criticisms they disagree with appear. I'd like to see ex-pats not associated with businesses contribute to the Luxor forum. Maybe we would get a different perspective then.

Well said Aswanfans.

As I have stated on this forum repeatedly, there are probably fewer bigger fans of Luxor than me and I certainly do not get my 'kicks' from Luxor 'bashing', as some on here insinuate.

What I 'learnt' (and am still learning) about Luxor was by visiting regularly over the last 20 years.

I made loads of 'expensive' mistakes in my early trips there, long before the likes of TA, or any other 'How to' manuals for Luxor and I wish I could have accessed information as easily as TripAdvisor allows todays visitors to do.

So I would like to tell people, wherever I am able, how to get the 'best' out of Luxor, wherever I think I can and if that stops them getting ill, getting ripped off, scammed, seeing and doing things that they may not think it is possible to do and all the other good, bad and indifferent things that I did not have the advantage of someone telling me, then hopefully I may have helped.

I have nothing to gain from doing so (other than knowing I may have helped someone) and people can dismiss any advice I may give, or disagree with my opinions should they choose to, that is of course their right.

But much as I love Luxor, I will not 'paper over the cracks' or pretend that the 'not so pleasant' bits do not exist, even if it means being branded a 'fantasist', a doom sayer, or Luxor basher, but will try to help people manage the 'bad bits' a bit better if I can by telling it like it is.

So would I Aswanfans, but having never seen a post from one since I first joined TripAdvisor, sadly I don't think there are any !

Af

I do not mean to mock anyone and most of the regular posters I have met at some point and if it was not for regulars the town would be much worse off.

I agree 100% re the info re Taxi trips etc because I don't do the trips touristy things or arrange them for others so I have no idea.

What I hope I can contribute is an accurate picture to the best of my knowledge whats going on here now today I do not see everything or hear about everything but I do hear about serious incidents or I get warned if there is anything impending that maybe in the vicinity of my restaurants. I have also never said that everything is perfect in Luxor ever.

To be honest if I did not have a business here I probably would not be on here I joined to mange my listings and contribute to these forums because I have I hope something useful to contribute so that may explain why there is no one without business on here.

But still to imply my efforts are of any less value because I do have a business is still wrong.

Regards
