We have been to Luxor twice in the past years. We have had a baby and he will be 16 months in summer and we are trying to find a great summer holiday.

We have seen a really good deal at Jollie Ville (we have stayed before and know that there is plenty of shade etc) the rooms are nice and clean and spacious. We know that at night he can go to sleep with working air con (power permitting :-) ) and we can sit outside the room play cards and chat etc. Without it being a balcony.

We are only concerned about the heat.

We are both teachers and so are stuck with August heat and August prices! At his age all the kids clubs of other hotels are a big no no and the water slides etc are a big no no! He loves being in a pool and has had swimming lessons since he was 3 months old so he would love a pool etc.

Would we be foolish with the heat?

Although you mentioned being in Luxor on 2 occasions, are you asking about going to the Jolie Ville in Sharm el Sheik in the Sinai in August, not in Luxor? Luxor in August I wouldn't even contemplate, even the locals get away if they can, but Sharm el Sheik would be a different story, as you are on the water, for a start, there's lots of shade in the pools, and, as you mentioned, the baby can nap in the cool room while you relax and enjoy the view from the balcony. We stayed at the Jolie Ville in Sharm in mid-May and although it was hot, it was not unbearable, especially by the water.

Also, if you're stuck on Egypt, Alexandria would be very nice in August. But have you thought about going to one of the Greek islands instead? We were also in Mykonos and Santorini last May and the weather was much more mellow - nice and warm for laying on the beach, but not that intense heat. And the beaches on Mykonos were fantastic!

Thank you all for your advice.

Think the fact that I'm questioning it is proof itself that it's a bit of a balmy idea! Now to convince my partner it's a bad idea.

Really appreciate your honest comments
