It appears that I will not be getting around to finishing off my travelogue of my visit to Cairo and Luxor but I have to plug our guide, Jane Akshar - http://www.flatsinluxor.co.uk/. Although I especially recommend her for families with children, everyone would benefit from a guide who brings history to life like she did. She had dress up clothes of pharaohs and Hittite princesses, she arranged a spectacular birthday cake from Twinkie's for my daughter's 8th birthday. It was smuggled on board during our sunset cruise and was truly a surprise. She obviously loves Egypt and is very knowledgeable. Even though Jane had a major personal crisis while being our guide, she didn't drop the ball and our vacation continued on without a clitch.

Hire Jane with confidence. She is an excellent businesswoman as well as a guide. You will not go wrong.

BTW - We stayed in her "Original Flats" in Al Gezera Village on the West Bank. These are well located to everything you'll need. You can walk to the motorboats to cross to the East Bank, to restaurants and small markets. Just remember to bring ear plugs as the flats can be noisy if you're not used to traffic, donkeys, roosters and dogs....! :-)
