We went on a 4T Presidential Nile cruise on the Nile Commadore organized with Thompsons in October 07. When we landed in Luxor we were expecting the usuall "I will get your Visa" but our tour guide Gabriel "sp" simpley pointed us in the direction of the banks on the left. Got our visa £7.50 and changed some money cleared immigration and then ran the gauntlet of the baggage handlers yes it is only about 100mts to the coaches but after 5 hours on the plane I was glad to let them carry my bags . Gave a LE5 tip and was told it was "small" just smilled and got on the Coach. Thompsons include transfers in their price.

Arrived at the boat about 25 mins later. Bags were taken onto the boat and taken to our cabin. Got settled in and then went for our first meal. We were plesently surprised by how much choice there was and the quality . We never had a bad meal the whole 7 days.

We had an introduction and met our guide for the week Mohammed he was great very knowledgeable. He had time for everyone and was always helpful if you wanted something explained.We were given a brief outline of the trips planned etc. These were then posted on the notice board.

The reception staff and crew were fantastic. Said our cabin cleaner left us towel sculptures each day.What he did with towels was brilliant.

We changed money for small motes at reception each day. The trips were early but not as early as I was expecting. We were back on board by 1pm at the latest and were met with cold drinks each time. We spent the afternoos lazing by the pool watching the world go by fantastic :-)

The Thompsons rep gave us a guide for the ammount of tips to leave the crew and guide but it was entirely up to you what you put in the envelope.

I cannot fault the cruise the only thing I would warn about is the price of drinks a Vodka and coke was £5.50 beer was £2.50. If you drink on board keep an eye on what you have it can soon mount up you pay at the end. We bought water off the boat and took it back with us less than a quarter of the price.

There are many posts here about the trips so I won't describe them except to mention Dendera I was surprised at the ammount of "Security" walking round with semi-automatics dangling from under their suits, that said we did not feel threatened. We also had machine guns mounted on the boat going to and from Dendera.

We had our second week in Luxor at the Movenpick fantastic place we are going again this year but having 2 weeks in Luxor.

Would I recommend a cruise YES!!!

Should also have mentioned the rooms were spotless. Not a lot of room but we had room for the cases under the beds so they were not in the way and also a safe and fridge in the room.Enough room to hang up clothes and a couple of shelves.My wife also borrowed a hairdryer,no charge. The laundry service was cheap and was done the same day. We were in the middle of the boat and it was nice and quiet no engine noise even with the window open.

A little rushed in the mornings but then there is a lot to see in a short time but lots of lazy afternoons.

I will echo Colin and Diane's post. Travelled on the Commadore 5 times and loved it every time. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble.The boat is looking a bit worn around the edges but all the amenities are good.

Hi, have travelled with discover egypt twice now and going for the third time in july. First time we were on the viking 11, although the boat was in need of refurbishing we had a fantastic time. Second time we were on the viking premiere, very nice boat although not five star by our standard.We were met at the airport by discover egypt reps who saw us through the whole process,once on the boat the weeks itinery was explained at the welcome meeting. Very well organised throughout, excellent food, could not fault the staff at all, can't wait to go back again. We spend our second weeks in Luxor at the Mercure (etap), again i can't fault this hotel for value for money.
