 Sand treatment for rheumatism
Destination Expert   What's this?
for Luxor

I am thinking about staying in Aswan while in Egypt in four weeks time to go and see Abu Simbel but my wifes mobility is not good so she will not be going and would stay in Aswan for the day. I have been reading about the healing properties of the sand for joint-inflammation and rheumatism. I have seen some mention of it at the Pyramisa Isis Island Resort & spa. Does anyone know anything about it, and is that the only place. I would like my wife to have some treatment while I go to Abu Simbel.

Also if I stay at the above resort will the ferry run that early to catch the coach/mini bus.

Why not take your wife to Abu Simbel and stay the night there.

You could then both go to the sound and light and in the morning go to the sunrise

I did it last year and am so glad we did. I saw a few wheelchairs going to the left after the entrance (we were taken right) - that way may have been longer, but it was less hilly to get round to the front of the temples.

The sound and light is not to be missed, but this is what you do if you take the convoy or flight up for the day.

We arrived (by the bus) about 15:00, saw the Sound & Light, went back at 06-00 for sunrise and spent the next 48 hrs relaxing at a lovely pool in the Seti Abu Simbel Hotel.

It was cheaper than flying up & down. Even if your wife isn't in a chair, because of the times it is cooler. She can take things slower

I have some pics on my page showing the sound & Light & the Hotel - see my review page for Abu Simbel

I have looked into that, first, my wife is just not interested, she would go to Abu Simbel but the flights are now very expensive £70 each return, Aswan - Abu Simbel, and the hotel their is not cheap. I can get cheap flights from Luxor to Aswan about £55 return for two and three nights in Aswan then get a mini bus to Abu Simbel for less than one night in Abu Simbel.

My wife is not keen on going would rather stay in Luxor so I am enticing her with the sand treatment saying she can do that while I am on my trip. I haven't booked it yet waiting for an email reply from Aswan individual who organize the mini bus.

It was on Aswan-individual web site and although not mentioned where it was the pictures look like Pyramisa Isis Island spa resort at Aswan. But I can find no mention of it in the hotel details.

I have RA too, and had heard that treatments were available in Aswan (eg Aga Khan etc!)so I asked while we were there last summer. I was quite mobile at the time, but I always hope for improvement.

I am sure the old Oberoi on Elephantine used to offer treatments, not sure what the new name is -Movenpick? but all the New Cataract could offer was a brochure for their beauty spa. They could not give me any information about any other treatment centres.

I would have asked more questions, but we were only there three days and my husband was struck down with Pharoah's revenge, so the oportunity was lost.

Phil:

Isis Island is noted for it's "sand treatment". It would be best for your wife to just spend the day...she can take the sand treatment, have a massage at the Spa, spend time in the Jacussi or sauna, and just loll away the day at either of the two beautiful swimming pools. The larger pool now boasts a full service Italian restaurant, and snacks are also available from the main restauant...the burgers are quite good, and they serve the best MANGO milk shake in Egypt!!! .

The ferry runs 24 hrs per day, approximately every 15 minutes. If they know the exact time you wish to leave they will make sure the ferry is available.

Thanks from me too, bigappleguy!

It's cold and damp here & i have just fought off an infection in my knee.

I could just do with some hot sand, a warm pool and a mango milk shake! Let us all know how good it is when you come back Phil!
