Restaurants in Cairo

Hi everyone (again),

Can anyone suggest some really good restaurants in Cairo? And, what is the issue with alcohol? I'll be traveling with a bunch of wine -food geeks and we're wondering what to expect. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Cat.

There is no problem about the consumption of alcohol in Egypt with most 4* and 5* establishments offering a wide range of both internaitonal and local products.

With regard to restaurants depends what you are looking for. Justine's is a classy gourmet restaurant and the food is superb but has no view. Try the Noubian Restaurant in the Grand Hyatt for more traditional food, the Nile or Golden Pharaoh Floating Restaurants - embarkation in front of the French Embassy on the El Nil Street. Also, check out Le Pacha Boat, moored on the banks of the Nile near the Cairo Marriott (stationary does not sail) which has a selection of some 6-8 restaurants, the Mena House Oberoi next to the pyramids, the Cellar in the President Hotel, the Grill in the Semiramis InterContinental, High Heels at the Nile Hilton, other floating restaurants are Nile Maxims and Humphrey, the JW Marriott Steak House at the Cairo Marriott and the garden patio which in the winter time may only be open until sunset. If you are looking for some cosy there is Tia Maria on Jeddah Street in Mohandesseen. For grilled fish try Christos on the Pyramids Road. If you would like to taste some typical Egyptian food in a more rustic atmosphere try Fel-Fella in downtown Cairo. All these serve alcohol. With regard to the revolving restaurant the Hyatt Regency the food does not live up to the view! Very expensive for nothing other than a splendid rotating panormaic view of Cairo.

We ate at alot of great local Kebob places, but unfortunately I don't have the names. The guides took us there and the food was great. I will say, however, that we were VERY disappointed with the Grand Hyatt Floating restaurant. The food and belly dancing was mediocre. Very overpriced and not worth the money. Skip it.
