Considering a hotel in La Candelaria. Bad idea?

I am reading mixed reviews about this neighbourhood and it seems its safety at night is questionable. I came across a hotel w/great reviews & rates that I'm considering but after reading related posts and recommended neighbourhoods, I"m wondering if I would be better off not being based out of La Candelaria? My friend and I will be going out for dinners etc in the evenings and we don't want to feel that once it gets dark, we can't leave our hotel room.

UK it's a OK

I have another option for you. Stay in a B+B Casa near the football stadium called Marquis del Plata, I have stayed there twice and the reviews I have read are very accurate.

It is less than a mile walk from bars restaurants and shopping area called Galerias. Not many tourists so very Colombian locale but very safe day and night.

I did visit the La Candelaria district during the day time and also on a quiet Sunday afternoon and although that area is nice I suspect it might be a little edgy at night
