how busy will Punta be for Xmas ..New Year 2012

Hi there,

We know Punta well and we are thinking of visiting over Xmas/NY 2012, but we are wondering what effect the Argentine problems will have.

With 15% added to every Argentine ccard and no USD plus the AFIP tax office chasing every Arg property owner in Punta, we are wondering whether we will be in for a quiet time.

Does anyone have any thoughts on NY in Punta this year.

saludos

John

Three things to keep in mind: 1) The Argentinian coastal resorts are very expensive now, after 30%+ inflation for many years, so Punta doesn't look so expensive to Argentinians. 2) Argentinians always find a way to get to Punta with Dollars; moreover, the Uruguayan govt. measures mentioned in the first post almost completely offset the measures taken by the Argentinian govt., especially when Argentinians use credit cards; if Argentinians can't rent out there houses or apartments in Punta this year, they will use them themselves, so the net effect is zero. 3) Brazilians form an ever larger part of the crowd at New Years. All in all, I expect New Years to be hopping, perhaps as much or more than ever. The rest of the season might suffer a bit, but those who go at New Years are the really monied crowd, from all over South America and elsewhere, and they should show up this year, too.
