Driving from Dubai to Muscat Oman in January

Hi, I am planning to drive from Dubai to Muscat Oman. Can anyone suggest the best route that may include must visit places in Oman?

I am planning a 2 days 1 night for this trip. Any suggestions?

Would respectfully recommend then that you ask questions about the UAE and it's various Emirates on the UAE forum and it's various sub-forums.

Hi Hugedxb.....just a thought, but now that the new highway is open between Dubai and Fujairiah would it not be better to use that road and then cross at Khor Kalban??? Saves all the messing about going through the enclaves. I haven't travelled the road but was in Fujairah last weekend and saw the end (start?) of it and it looks a good road.

From Dubai to Oman: The Hatta/Oman road directions are generally well indicated throughout, specially when you can get off Sheikh Zayed Road into Al Khail Road. Alternatively, if you can extend from Oud Metha Road towards Jebel Ali, you will see the signboards for Hatta/Oman. Then it is one straight route, cannot go wrong.

There are two borders, first one UAE exit; second one Oman arrival. There may be fees at both stations, depending on the regulations at the time.

As for rented cars, many are already having Oman insurance, so you specifically request for one; if not, they will provide you with necessary papers so you can take the insurance at the border. Usually the border authorities are not bothered whether the car is your own or rented, so long as you are able to provide the car insurance.

The other question of doing Sharjah, Ajman and RAK in one day: Yes you can do, but what do you want to do there? If you want to see interesting places then both Shj and RAK deserve separate trips. Not sure if there is much to see in Ajman excepting the beach. Dubai to RAK is all of 100 km, and you will pass through Shj, Ajman and Umm Al Quiwan on your way. You could drive along the old city route, or take the express high way Emirates Road.
