Tel Aviv 1 day tour of city

I posted my upcoming itinerary a few days ago and if anyone remembers I was the one who was going to use the HOHO bus in Tel Aviv but in the end decided against it.

This is my new itinerary for our one full day in TA and would very much welcome your comments.

1. After breakfast walk along the promenade to Old Jaffa and spend some time exploring.

2. Bus to Newe Zedek (please help with number and where to get it)

3. Walk to Carmel Market (we like markets) and onwards to Dizengoff Street.

4. Bus to Rabin Square (Where do we get the bus and what is the number?)

5. Bus to Diaspora Museum and spend as much time as possible here (I know we won't have much time here but time permitting I would like to visit if possible).

6. Bus to the Old Port (where do we get the bus and what is the number?)

7. Dinner in the Old Port and then bus to Rothschild Street to connect with the Tuesday Evening Walking tour at 8pm.

What do you think??

We will be travelling from Manchester and arriving in TA the previous evening so will not be jet lagged.

Thank you for all your help so far.

I think that your day is still too ambitious. You are going to spend more time in Jaffa than you have planned. The Nahlat Binyamin arts & crafts market is also open on Tuesday and it is adjacent to the Carmel Market, so I doubt whether you will have time for the Diaspora Museum.

I suggest that you go to the Tel Aviv port for dinner on Monday evening. On Tuesday start off in Jaffa then go to the Carmel & Nahlat Binyamin Markets. If you have time go to Rabin Square. Go to Neve Zedek - walk around and have dinner there. Then head over to Rothschild for the tour.

Bus to Neve Zedek - no. 10 or 18 from 21 Shderot Yerushalim. You have to walk from the Clock Tower east on Marzuk & Azar street to Shderot Yerushalim, cross the street and walk a few steps north. Walk to the Carmel Market. Skip Dizengof street. Bus to Rabin square - no. 82, 38, 18, 125, 24, 25 from Alenby street, out east from the market.

Bus from Rabin Square to Beit Hatefuzot 289.

Thank you both, I didn't really think we would have time for the Diaspora museum. I don't want to go as far as the Port our first night as we will not arrive at our hotel until about 9pm.

If we skip the old Port are we missing a lot?

So much to do and so little time.

The Tel-Aviv Old Port (not Jaffa) is an entertainment area - lots of restaurants, stores, clubs, etc. I think that walking around Neve Zedek and eating there will fit into your itinerary much better.

2. From Old Jaffa to Neve Tzedek - just walk. It's pretty close. ( http://goo.gl/maps/eCwCx )

3. As mbgg advised, since you're lucky to be in Tel Aviv on Tuesday, don't miss the Nahalat Binyamin arts & crafts fair. www.nachlat-binyamin.com/en-Default.aspx

Nahalat Binyamin is adjacent to the Carmel Market. ( http://goo.gl/maps/LMtRT - (A) HaCarmel market - the entire street named HaCarmel, (B) - Nahalat Binyamin pedestrian street where the fair takes place)

If you walk to Dizengoff street from the market, you are less than 10 minutes away from Rabin square. Here's a map to demonstrate:

(A) - HaCarmel Market

(B) - Dizengoff center

(C) - Rabin square

If you want to get to the Diaspora museum from Rabin square, take bus #24 or #25 to the Tel Aviv University campus, inside which the museum is located. Bus #25 will drop you just in front of the campus gate which is nearest to the museum, and bus #24 will just drop you at the main entrance from where you would need to cross the lovely campus to get to the museum (5 minutes).

http://goo.gl/maps/o6GAM

(A) - bus #24 only stop (bus #25 also has a stop here)

(B) - Diaspora museum - Beth Hatfutsot

(C) - bus #25 stop - nearest to the museum

(ignore google's blue lines. you can walk directly from (C) to (B)

From the Diaspora museum, go the the main entrance and take bus #6 or #33 on Einstein street:

http://goo.gl/maps/rpRNm

(A) - Diaspora museum

(B) - bus stop

Get off the terminal station - Reading bus terminal. From there, walk west, cross the river through the pedestrian bridge and you will find yourself at the port:

(A) - Reading bus terminal

(B) - The port

From the port take bus or sherut no. 4 to Rotchild.

Alternatively, you can tour the port at monday evening, as mbgg suggested. It's really not that far from your hotel, 10-15 minutes drive. ( http://goo.gl/maps/5uoSM )

Thank you Amos, we will see if we have time for the museum but we do like markets and as mbgg said we could well spend more time than allotted in Old Jaffa. I think we will defiantly give the port a miss - too old for clubbing!! Also I have sort of got my heart set on a restaurant that mbgg recommended on another thread in the Yemenite district - we love Middle Eastern food and we don't have any restaurants like that where we live but have an abundance of French Italian ect so want to eat our first night in particular something different than we would get at home.
