SIM Card for Iphone

Hey all,

I will be bringing an unlocked Iphone on my trip to Tel Aviv. Can anyone have any recommendations for a mobile phone company that sells SIM Cards? I am mostly interested in a Data plan as I will be using the phone mostly for GPS guided maps and to stay in touch via e-mail back home.

I have heard Orange is good? However, I was unable to find an English Website for them or the data plan rates.

Hello RahulMD,

None of the 3 major cellphone operators (Cellcom, Orange, Pelephone) has English site.

All three of them operate Facebook pages where you can ask questions or ask them to contact you.

There aren't many differences between all 3... I would choose the one with the best offer.

Has anyone used or heard anything about https://ampcellular.com/

They seem to have good pricing on sim cards, Mifi etc

Hi Looking372,

I have never heard of them... I tried to look for reviews but couldn't find any.

Their Facebook page looks a bit weird to me... no reviews, no questions... just few bit fishy replies of sympathy to the company.

Personally, if that indeed that is all the info there is about this company I would probably avoid... but that's just me.

Looking--your question is not the same as that of the original poster and you are in effect, hijacking a thread. That is not nice.

Rahul--Orange is one of the major companies. While in Israel I use an Orange phone with no problems. ( I admit, no data plan) Many many people on this forum report having rented/bought Orange SIM cards. Apparently they are sold also at the post office.

Also put "Orange SIM cards" in to the Search box for the Israel forum and you will get more threads. I suggest when the search results come up you reorganize by date instead of relevance.

I'm leaving for Tel Aviv this week and have the same question: unlocked iPhone (5) and need more data than voice.

Orange seems to have the best plan (orange.co.il/en/…) - 150 NIS for unlimited voice and 2gb data for 30 days. But, I'm having difficulty determining WHERE they are in Tel Aviv, as I can't find an English "locations" web page.

Ideally, I'd like to get the SIM card in TLV, but suspect they're not there.

Any suggestions on where to go? (BTW, I'm staying in Neve Tzedek)

Bert - in order to use this plan, you have to buy both a SIM card and the bigtalk card you mentioned (it's a topup card for the pay as you go "big talk" plan) so you will be looking at more like 250 shekels.

You probably have to go to an orange store to get these things (usually random stores only sell monetary topups and I don't know if they will have an iphone sim). There are quite a number of them in Tel Aviv - including at the Dizengoff centre. If you can read Hebrew or get someone else to, the list of stores is here:

It may well be that specialist travel SIM companies have better deals than the Israeli providers, as the pay as you go Israeli deals available to non-citizens are often not a very good deal, especially if you have a short trip, as you have to factor in buying the SIM, and also actually finding the place to get set up.

Thanks avigailchaya. I'm going to be in Israel for 3 weeks - 150 shekels seemed rather low for 2GB plus unlimited voice/sms for a month. 250 isn't horribly outrageous, though - it's about what I pay now per month in the US!

Thanks for pointing out the Dizengoff centre.

I have been to Israel twice with an unlocked Iphone. I was told that Orange had the best coverage and so went with that. It was perfect! The first time I went I started in Eilat and got the SIM card at the Post Office. It was a waste of time getting it there because they couldn't add the data pack I wanted for internet access. I had to find the Orange store for that.

The second time I went we started in Tel Aviv. I was told the Dizengoff centre was a good place to go and it was good advice. There is an Orange stall there - but they actually said they couldn't help us but pointed us across the aisle to another stall which sold orange SIM cards with data packages for tourists. The guy there was fantastic. He put the SIM card in the phone for me and did all the setup (which came via text messages in Hebrew). By the time we left him we had a working phone with sufficient data to last us for our month in Israel.

Heather G - thanks for that information - my first stop will be the Dizengoff Centre - after I get some sleep :)
