Hi,
A girlfriend and I are travelling to Israel in a month - our final night is a Friday night in Tel Aviv and we were hoping to have a bit of a night out on the town - however we reliase this is Shabbat - does this mean everywhere will be closed? If not - any recommendations?
Also - any tips on best areas to stay in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem?

You will find plenty of places open to go out in Tel Aviv on a Friday night - I'll let others make suggestions.
Before we can make recommendations on where to stay - please give us an idea of your budget - please give dollar amounts and not descriptions such as "budget" "mid-range" as they all mean different things to different people.
Almost everything is open Friday night in Tel-Aviv - pubs, clubs and restaurants. Try the Tel-Aviv port area at the northern end of the City.

Anywhere in the center of Tel-Aviv is a good location to stay. What is your budget ?
Edited: 4:26 am, March 11, 2013Thanks so much for our replies. Very excited to know things will be open on a Friday. Budget is about $200 a night, which doesn't seem to go too far- happy to go up a bit if our current budget is putting us in a dodgy area.
Try the "Hayarkon 48" hostel:
The Bnei Dan Youth Hostel is open to everyone and has private rooms:
It is a little further out but you can walk from there to the Port or take the #5 sherut to the centre of town (the sherut runs on Friday/Sat).

Check Beachfront hotel. Adiv and Maxim. All in nice locations and the beach. Foe nightlife check Mike's Place where many English speakers assemble. http://www.mikesplacebars.com/

Last I saw, the Adiv was closed for "remodeling" - but is/was an excellent choice and location and in your budget. The nearby Maxim also good but make sure to get a double room to get a full size bathroom. The BW Regency is next door. All are close to the beach, Mike's Place and an easy ride/walk to the Port area for dinner
