Shabbat/ Weekends

Are most tourist attractions closed on Saturdays/ Shabbat?

What is open on Friday evenings or Saturdays?

What do you suggest to do in Jerusalem on a Saturday?

Is it easy to get around Jeruslem on Shabbat?

1. Re: Shabbat/ Weekends

In Jerusalem the following are open on Saturday : the Old City (except for sites in the Jewish Quarter), the Israel Museum, David's Citadel Museum, the Ramparts Walk, Museum of Islamic Art.

All National Parks throughout the country are open.

For other sites in the rest of the country - you have to check their websites for Saturday hours.

Taxis and sheruts operate on Saturday.

All kosher restaurants are closed on Friday evenings and Saturday lunchtimes (but reopen on Saturday evenings after Shabbat). There is no problem finding non-kosher restaurants that are open on Shabbat, and you won't starve.

Shops and businesses, including post offices and car rental places, are closed Friday afternoons and Saturdays, reopening Sunday morning. Many banks are closed all day Friday as well. Some small grocery stores are open, but if you're self-catering buy your supplies on Friday morning to be safe.

There is no public transport in Jerusalem on Shabbat. Taxis are always available, or you can walk! There are no sheruts (shared taxis) operating within Jerusalem at any time.
