Kotel Tunnels

Where does one enter the tunnels and is it necessary to be dressed as you would to visit the Kotel (i.e. no shorts, shoulders covered etc)

When you face the Kotel, the entrance is at the far left end. As it is undergound no shorts and a t-shirt with some sleeves might be useful.

The entrance is in a tunnel opposite the far end of the Western Wall plaza. Turn your back to the wall and walk forward and to your right. Just before the steps is a tunnel and just inside you will a booth where you can pick up the tickets. Be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment.

You are crossing the kotel plaza, you are going to be stopped and given something to cover yourself with if you wear shorts. Bottom line, you do not see many people ( other than tourists) roaming around Jerusalem in shorts. ( capris are fine)

Out of respect of Judaisms most holy site it would be best to wear modest attair. Slacks should be below the knee for both men and woman and one should not wear tank tops . The tunnel toyr runs parallel to the Western Wall whose entire length is holy.

BTW for women it us much cooler to wear a light skirt in the heat than pants regardless of where you are visiting.

Thanks for the information. Can skirts/dresses come right above the knee or should they be longer?

They can be right above the knee but at the Western Wall this is not acceptable and you will be asked to wear a wrap. Keep this in mind for the day of your tour. You can get to the tunnel tour without going to the Western Wall plaza if arranging your attire is problematic.

While skirts should touch the knee I have seen plenty of people with their skirts 1-1.5 inches above the knee and they are left alone. More than that, you will end up with a shawl.
