Cruise stops in Israel this week.

Does anyone know if the tours in Israel are operating this week from the cruise ships?

There will be no tours on Yom Kippur, but any day that a cruise ship arrives at either Haifa or Ashdod you can be assured that official shore excursions will be offered, as well as all sorts of private alternative tours.

During the Sukkot holiday, expect big crowds and heavy traffic everywhere.

Of course the tours will be operating then. Why wouldn't they be?

The Costa has not cancelled their docking in Israel and thus shore excursions will operate. Enjoy!

It would be interesting to know why you think there would not be tours.

Tony

Not only that no cruise company had canceled Israel, I’ve just got a notice from an agent I work with that some companies are adding extra days in Israel after canceling Egypt. This is the case with Oceania Cruises that added an extra day on Oct 4 for the Marina that is going to be in Israel 4 days!!!

R.C.C Group, that includes also Celebrity and Azamara, had announce that they are monitoring the situation in Egypt but decided not to cancel it yet. In any case the only influence it will have on the Israelis port call, from my past experience, will be adding days to Israel rather than canceling days.

This year, 2012, a lot of cruise companies had canceled in advance Egypt and that is the situation in 2013 too (cruises are always planed 2 years ahead so if a destination is canceled today the chances it will return before 2 years will pass is law!). R.C.C for example had pulled out from Egypt almost totally in 2013 and that has a sever influence here on us in Israel since they had canceled almost all their “Holy Land” cruises and they will not come next year. The big ships of R.C.C and Celebrity will not call any Israeli port during 2013 and in general the number of port call dropped down more than 50% in 2012 compering to 2011!!!

Now, all this is not due to the situation in Israel, which has become the safest place in the Middle East, it is due to the situation around us including the one in Egypt. You see, we were left alone here as a safe destination in the far Eastern Mediterranean Sea!!! The cruise companies are calculating the cost of dragging their ships all away to Israel, with no destination on the way (in 2012 there were destinations like Tunis, Algeria, Libya and even Syria!!!) and the have found it not profitable. There for they made a BUSINESS DECISION to pull out from Israel during 2013 and that is sad to us all and ofcouse a very bad impact on us who live out of tourism.

So enjoy your visit to Israel. If you don’t have any pre-arrangement for your excursions, at list in Haifa there is a new touring office that offer options for incoming passengers.

Thanks for the explanation, Moti. That is really sad for 2013 and for Egypt, which depends so heavily on the tourism industrty.
