Jerusalem as a first stop or on Shabbat |
|
I am planning my trip to Israel for May of Next Year. I've been reading a lot on this forum and other sources. I seem to have a good idea about my itinerary (will post it here for critique later) and before making my final plan I need an advise. The way I have everything planned right now it has me arriving Jerusalem (from Tel Aviv) on Friday night. I plan to spend 3 days in Jerusalem, but one of them is on Shabbat. The only alternative I see to completely avoid Saturday in Jerusalem is to make it my first stop in the country. Basically go to Jerusalem upon arrival, spend 3 days there, and after that do North, Tel Aviv, and South. My concern with this is making Jerusalem (probably the most important city) a first stop before acclimating in the country or having a chance to find out things locally and explore local option. Which option would you suggest? Which one is a lesser issue in your opinion? |

If you are renting a car just to drive from the airport to Tel Aviv (about a 30 minute trip), I'd simply take a cab or sherut (group taxi). It would save time, money, and quite a bit of hassle. Douglas Duckett

FYI, the four quarters tour is at 9 am, 11 am or 2 pm! We arrived at noon and missed this tour today.

We arrived in Jerusalem on Friday afternoon last month. While the city quiets down dramatically there are open restaurants and the old city was rather lively on Saturday. Plus it is interesting and inspiring to mingle with the Jews who converge on the Kotel for Shabbat. By 2 or 3 pm on Saturday traffic was returning to the streets and some shops and restaurants were opening. We too considered changing our plans but are glad that we did not.
