You are close to the old city but quite far away from the new City where launderettes are. I can give you the phone number of the guy who does my dry cleaning and ironing . He has a launderette and you can ask him whether he would be willing to pick up your laundry and how much would it cost. Would you be interested?
Hi anon, thank you for the offer. How much would your laundry guy charge? Of course I don`t expect a definite number ...
just forgot: of course I would like his number... so I can ask him myself
I don't know how much he would charge, since I use him for ironing and drycleaning and that's a different kettle of fish. But he is very nice and pleasant. His name is Avi and his number is 02-6736444. Tell him Alisa sent you.
thank you anon,
but just in case: where are launderettes in the new town?
In case you're still looking.... I believe the Olive Tree concierge will arrange laundry service for you.
It may or may not still be there, but there was a small laundrette in the Ramat Eshkol neighborhood north of where you are staying. It's probably too far to walk there but not bad by car.
I would probably have the Olive Tree do it for me just for the convenience.
I don't know the street name, but perhaps this will jog someone's memory. There is a small laundry about two blocks from the McDonalds near Ben Yehuda...in the direction of the Old City (I think..I found it by accident two years ago).
They have staff that keeps busy doing what looked like hotel laundry, but you can use the machines yourself (I had to wait about 30 minutes for some to open up).
I know this is inadequate information to find it, but maybe someone else will recognize the spot.
There are a lot of launderettes in the New City. There's one in Ha nevi'im Street, a bunch near the HaMashbir dep't store, one in ramot eshkol and many many others. The Olive Tree is likely to rip you off like any other hotel. The guy I referred you to has a launderette in Beit Lehem Road. I spoke to him yesterday. he'll be happy to pick up your stuff. Call him and he'll give you a quote. He 's a very nice young man and clearly by calling him you are not committing yourself to anything.
And...if this works out, please report back. I often have the same problem. I need to do some laundry mid trip, but don't feel like paying $3 for a pair of socks and $6 per shirt in the hotel laundry.
If this works out, I might have a whole bus load of laundry for him next fall.
