1 day in Istanbul

Hi everyone

We'll be stoping in Istanbul beginning of August on our cruise trip. How far away are the topkapi, the blue mosque, the Aya Sophia and the grand Bazaar from each other? And what would be the best way to get from the port to those places. I'm sure the ship will organise day excursion but we would rather do it ourselves.

Thanks

The first three sights you mention are all within a 10-minute walk from each other, across the Golden Horn from the cruise port. The Grand Bazaar is another 10 minutes away.

The best and easiest way to get from the port to the Sultanahmet area, where these all are located, is simply to walk outside the port gate and catch the tram, which runs on the street parallel to the port and will get you there in 10 minutes. Simply get off at the Sultanahmet stop.

If you want to visit the Grand Bazaar, take the tram a further two stops past the Sultanahmet stop.

Of course, be sure to get some Turkish lira from an ATM first, buy your tram token at the little booth by the tram stop, and get on the modern, efficient tram.

You can also take a taxi, but the traffic in Istanbul is very bad, and it will take you a lot longer to get to your destination.

There only is one tram line, so you cannot get lost.

Hello!

They all are in 5-10 minutes walking from each other. It's better ti use a tram from the port.
