Been to jwv on both islands several times.
Vila has the best house reef by far. It is excellent,
The jwv's are very similar, just a small difference in layout.
Veli is the nicer island (smaller and prettier). There isn't much house reef to explore - mainly a bit off the front of the jwv's near the arrival jetty.
On Vila you would be allocated to the adults only restaurant, adjacent to the adults only pool and bar. On Veli they currently only take children in the few JBV's but it is supposedly going adults only.
Hi just a quick check, what abt Komandoo Island resort JWV? comparable with the above two resorts?
Also been to komandoo.
The jwv on Veli and Vila have a hot tub. On kom the jwv have a jacuzzi style bath.
The house reef goes in this order in our opinion: Vila (best), kom, Veli.
Kom is adults only, smaller than Vila and has lots of small nice touches that make it special.
Best reef = Vila
Best island = kom and Veli
Best rooms = Vila and Veli (because of hot tub)
Best service = kom
Best food = kom and veliEdited: 11:20 pm, February 20, 2013
Thanks so much for prompt reply. We have filter down 2 resort.
Veligandu island resort n spa OR Kuramathi Island Resort.
in ur opinion, which resort u think is better?
We've been to Kurumathi but it was many years ago, before the refurbishment. It is a very large island and has a mini bus which runs up and down on a dirt road along the middle of the island. There are some good areas of reef, but it can be more difficult to access.
The large size brings more restaurants, amenities etc.
It depends what is important to you.
Not sure wy you discounted Komandoo? Unavailable? It has a good reef and is a lovely island.
Went to veligandu last november my impression is that it is style over substance and although one of the more expensive islands i have chosen i did not like it much.
Nice rooms very good standard
Food very Good
Reef just ok by maldives standards
Jacquizi didnt use it as its very chlorinated and water is not changed between different Guests however who needs a jacquzi when the ocean is meters away
Privacy and room density on beach was good
Ugly island far to many water bungalows and groins
Too many honeymooners so pretty antisocial
Limited all inclusive eg no choice of cocktails or drinks
Resteraunt is overcrowded and mayhem at meal times
Bar is uncomfortable and all style over comfort and generally does not encourage a social vibe.
Terrible intrusive entertainment eg film night music video night slide show night which dominates the bar
Overpriced compared to other islands.
If this is your first visit to maldives i am sure you will love it however there is way better at this price point.
The differences to veli and villa are as follows They are both owned by the same company.
Room density on villa is way higher so it is less private however the reef is much better villa is more natural with less waterbungalows but is of a lower rating/ standard than Veli
Kuramathi is opposite veli and is a large island
Waterbungalows are completely overrated the ones at theese islands do not have glass floors and if windy you may feel seasick also you are limited to your small balcony which IMO seems like a waste the best thing about the maldives is that desert island experience with No News and No Shoes
If it is just the room and reef you are interested in then Veli is a reasonable choice but for me the room is not important as you will not spend much time in it. The reef is very important.
Hope you have a great time
You really felt seasick in a WV?
Vila has the better reef. JWvs were metres from the drop off in places.
Have you ever been in a WV in a Maldavian storm saw the results of a tropical storm when lightning hit a water villa on Angaga luckily no one was hurt
