I'll be traveling from KL to Penang and later Langkawi to KL. There is a considerable price difference between Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines. Is Air Asia (much cheaper) reliable? Can you show up at the airport and get a ticket that day, or do you need to book in advance? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Air Asia is a budget no-frills carrier. When there is a delay or cancellation, don't expect to be compensated to a different flight. At most, you will be refunded with the amount you paid for your ticket. My experience with it has been good; no complaints. Its fare varies widely; the closer it is to your departure day, the more expensive the ticket will be. Malaysia Airlines is a premium carrier and its fare is the same whether you buy in advance or on the day.

I normally book in advance (since cheaper) for my Air Asia flights. Do read the FAQs on its website first if you wish to travel by AA.

Hi, going with AirAsia and booking ealier on its website, do provides very attractive fares,as their fare structure is time and seasonal based.

Airport tax is also lower on AirAsia.

Downside of it:- (a). No IFE (b). no inflight meals (c). lower baggage allowance@15kgs (MH's -20kgs) (d). no airbridge to plane (e). a point to point carrier, i.e. unless you get a travel insurance, they are not liable for compensation for delays in connection( besides with most travel insurance, it only kick in with compensation for delay above 6hours) (f). no seat selection (though with a nominal fee, you can get onto the plane first, and select your seats).

Past personal experience with AirAsia, the longest delay was 1hour.

Uses AirBus A320 plane-black leather seats

the only problem with Air Asia is that they cancel flights, without giving you the possibility to find alternative flights and they don't give back the money once they have cancelled the flight.

this is the aforementioned clause 9.2:

"Cancellation, Changes of Schedules: At any time after a booking has been made we may change our schedules and/or cancel, terminate, divert, postpone reschedule or delay any flight where we reasonably consider this to be justified by circumstances beyond our control or for reasons of safety or commercial reasons. In the event of such flight cancellation, we shall at our option, either:

carry you at the earliest opportunity on another of our scheduled services on which space is available without additional charge and, where necessary, extend the validity of your booking; or

should you choose to travel at another time, retain the value of your fare in a credit account for your future travel provided that you must re-book within three (3) months therefrom."

Air Asia.. If they cancel flight, you will know how disasterous it is. Their hotline is really something that caused you to curse and swear at. I don't mind if they cancel flight or whatever, I flied several time with them, and was OK, but when they really cancel flight... it is hell. They will drop you an e-mail asking to call their hotline for follow up arrangement AND THAT you HAVE TO PREPARE YOURSELF FOR TENS OF TRIALS, WASTING HOURS OF TIME AND YET COULD NOT GET THROUGH. Get what I mean, the kind of compensation or arrangement offered is so unkind and unethical!! When you finally got through they ask you to call another non responding number. You wrote an e-mail to them beg for help, they will have a templated reply ask you to call their hotline. Unless you are in Malaysia that we can walk in to their office demand for whatever immediate arrangement and make official complaint to the Authority else my advise will be.....DONT EVEN CONSIDER IT.. MAS is definitely and by far more superior and more responsible. To me, never Air Asia, don't even bother their price!

There is no free lunch as they say. Thats the reason they are called a LCC. If they provided everything exactly as a premium airline, they wont be able to give cheap fares. Caveat Emptor !

In my case, I have flown more than ten times with AA and know what I am getting into. So far, touch wood, no significant problems.

Hi

Raw deal!!!

This credit shelf is very misleading.

You can only rebook by phone only, there is no way you can reuse to buy online.

Back to close to more than an hour(frustration) to call the hotline for some kind soul to talk to for your re- booking.

Call in rate apply and you will not be given online booking rate, alway more expensive.

>>>should you choose to travel at another time, retain the value of your fare in a credit account for your future travel provided that you must re-book within three (3) months therefrom."

You need international community to make arrogant A.Asia to buck up.
