Vientiane to Luang Prabang

We will be flying from Vientiane to Luang Prabang and return in July/August next year.

How far in advance should we book our flights and do we use the Lao Airlines website or is there a better way of booking? For instance do hotels make flight bookings for you as in Vietnam and Cambodia?

I would book a couple of months ahead. There is no problem with using the web site, just ensure you are using the correct one - there are plenty of posts on this.

Travelled in Laos in November/December. Bused it up to Vientiane (via Vang Viang/ Phonsovan) to Luang Prabang but caught a flight back. We booked only three days before we left Luang Prabang. Plenty of flights each day, three during the week and four or five on Fridays. There is a Lao Airlines office in Luang Prabang, only about a ten minute walk from the centre of town. Cost was about US$80. Its a 35 minute flight much quicker than the 10 hours it takes on the bus.

Two months in advance is certainly plenty, and you are likely to get away with booking closer to the time as well. Some travel agents are able to book flights for you along with hotel rooms, but I have not heard of any hotel willing to do this for you in advance of your arrival (after you check in many will be able to help though).

Thanks for your help.

Is www.laoairlines.com the correct website?

"Is www.laoairlines.com the correct website?"

Yes, the hyphenated URL is the dodgy one to avoid.
