Teaching English in Phnom Penh

I emailed 15 schools 1 week before I arrived in PP whilst volunteering in a school in Kampot, then as I am now here followed up with a phone call to see what the situation was, plus called more International English language schools to ask re-vacancies.I have a full TESOl certificate and 2 months volunteering in a school in Guatemala and just a week in Kampot here. Before I heard they are crying out for teachers here.My general response was either ,no vacancies, maybe in the future we will take a look at your CV,we may have something in July,or you need a degree (which I dont have). Most of the schools are okay without the degree though.I was told the reason I had no email replies is that in Asia, they only reply if the need you,not like polite Brits who may email sorry no vacancies. The other problem when I did get someone who said possibly in the near future said minimum 1 year contract.I was upfront and said can only do 4 months as eventually it would be my main reference for any new jobs,as I know many people just leave after a few month into their contract.SO my question is any more tips or avenues, does anyone know anywhere where the school is saying,my god I just cant find any teacher.Any help would be great,I know about Khmer440 webiste, but cant see anything there

Perhaps, it is best when going to another country to not expect people to live by your standards. I am sure you will do many things in SEA, which are not considered polite by the locals.

lamlee ... adding to your spot-on comment ..."only the locals will probably be too polite to tell you that you have offended them"

Heck, just one week's notice!

How on earth can any reasonable teaching institute conduct Due Diligence and background checks on you in that short a time?

You did, of course, provide all those you contacted with a copy of your Police Clearance Certificate and copies of your TESOL and/or IELTS certificates and your References from former employers of you as a language teacher. Did you not?

Best regards. Ian

You are making yourself wide-open & vulnerable to a whole slew of pedophiles by advertising on a public forum. :-(

not to mention the spam ads for viagra and fake rolex watches that will now flood into your email inbox after posting your private address on a public forum.

but not to worry, you are advertsising which is against TA rules and your post will probably be removed very soon
