Thanks ,
It,s not a balloon ride than ,just up and down , are there no air balloon flights in Siem Reap ?
Not that I've ever seen, but there are helicopters although they cannot overfly the monuments as far as I understand it.
There will be someone along soon who will give you chapter and verse
cheers
Hello jisketfet,
Sorry, no free-ranging hot air baloons in Cambodia as yet.
Helicopter flights available but hellishly expensive.
BUT for the more budget minded wishing to see temples, villages and the fish traps etc in the Tonle Sap, etc. low and slow, there are microlight/ultraligh flights operated by Eddie Smith from the small landing zone at Phum Prei Police Post just 9 km south of Banteay Srei. However, he sometimes operates from a less visible LZ a bit further out.
Please note that it is prohibited to directly overfly or fly within one nautical mile of a World Heritage listed temple. Far more flexible for other angkorean etc sites. Some sites may require lodgement of a flight plan 24 hours in advance but most flights are spontaneous - first to arrive is first to fly.
You can contact Eddie when in Cambodia on his HP/Cell phone 092 533 269 and find out where he is flying at any time during your time in KH. Always best to phone Eddie in advance as he undertakes contract charter work all over KH for TV stations and the like. When not doing this work he is usuallyoperating in the Phum Prei commune area during the high season.
The Kulen mountains are great to fly to and over and easily done from Pum Prei. Also Phnom Bok and Phnom Da a bit further out. Just talk to Eddie about what interests you or let him suggest what is best on that particular day. Some days haze and smoke can affect visibility in some directions.
Many of the tuk tuk drivers know how to find him. Alternatively, email Eddie at <aboveangkor@yahoo.com> Eddie is a person of few words on the keyboard so don't waste his time or expect other than the briefest of replies. He has two passions - flying and photography - anything else is a distraction.
Best regards. Ian
Well a microlight/ultraligh flights is than maybe the best next thing , i will contact eddie when im in Siem Reap .
Txs for the info
yea, its not a flight over Angkor, its just an up and down venture. the price i last check (about a month ago) is USD11. if im not wrong, you get the view of Angkor and the other temples and about 10 minutes up there. worth taking it during sunsets and sunrises. helicopter rides are EX of course. i think it was about USD75 for 15 minutes. =D
Be forewarned that the tethered balloon doesn't operate in bad weather. This past July I tried to book an afternoon 'flight' but found the balloon grounded due to rain and strong winds.
In 2005 I did the morning ride on the balloon but found much of Angkor Wat hidden in shadows. If you do book a flight go for the late afternoon flilght.
if its windy than dont bother as they will not operate in windy conditions..as far as i could find out nothing is allowed to fly over angkor wat
