Chinese New Year in Cambodia

We are planning to be in PP and SR from Jan. 20 to Feb2, 2009. Is the Chinese New Year celebrated in Cambodia and would it be advisable to travel during that time? How many days is the Chunese New Year Celebrated? Are hotels fully booked and high price during this period? What about buses? Would it be difficult to get seats during this time? Any information on this would ne appreciated.

Thanks.

1. Re: Chinese New Year in Cambodia

Chinese new year are held 4 days basically. On the first day, ppl wont travel, they ll have to stay at home and do some rituals, so there wont be problem with hotels' availability. But from the 2nd day, ppl will start traveling, and most khmer-chinese ppl will head to the major destinations like Sihanoukville, Kept city and Siem Reap.

If you happen to go to Sihanoukville and Siem Reap during the 3 days, it is strongly recommended that you book your hotels and buses tickets at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Everything will get a bit more expensive during the new year week. If you dont like crowd, you should avoid the last 3 days.

Thanks Hitotsubashi for your answer, I have had the same question in my mind. Can you tell what are the exact dates for the Chinese New Year next year? Is it at the same time as TET in Vietnam?
