Hi Rochada,

Six of us have engaged Jason for a 17 day trip thru Vietnam in June. Saigon, Phan Thiet, Dalat, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Hanoi and Halong Bay.

We are staying in mainly 4 star hotels or resorts, he is booking some and we are booking some.

His charges look OK but the big advantage is the flexibilty. His planning looks very very good and we can change it at the last moment on the trip which you cannot do with a tour company. In other words we can have a beer or a swim when we want to.

Costs depend as he says on what you want to do.

He provided us with heaps of info, choices and options.

We are looking forward to the trip.

We just spent 10-13 Apr 2006 with Jason on his Mekong Delta to the "Back Door" (small poor village) tour. We spent the first and last night at the Windsor Plaza in ChinaTown (5-star) and one night at Can Tho hotel (3-star). The first afternoon was a quick tour of Saigon. The second day was to the Cu Chi tunnels and a ride on the Mekong River. The third day was a visit to a small poor village, fresh traditional VN meal, and ride back to Saigon. The fourth morning before our noon flight we toured ChinaTown. The cost for two adults and four children was 815USD. The cost included three nights of hotels, all lunches (except drinks), entrance fees to museums and parks, and driver with 15-pax air-con van.

Jason was very, very energetic (had to slow him down some so our 4-yr old could keep up) and good knowledge of the Vietnam War (a bit one-sided -- he calls it the American War and makes it sound like all VN were fighting only the Americans -- as long as you know up front the bias, the history is still good). He had several books with articles on the war with pictures that he used to inform us and had historical video on his cell phone and camera that was good in preparing us to see certain sites.

We also spent three days in Hanoi (13-16 Apr) and only spent 273USD (not including meals) for the six of us, which included an overnight stay on a boat in Halong Bay. We arranged everything through our hotel and used Lonely Planet to help us choose where to visit.

If I had to do over I would still have used Jason in Saigon simply because he made all the arrangements so we didn't have to. It's a bit intimidating coming into a country without any language skills and trying to get all the tours lined up after arriving. Jason gave us different options and we picked the one that we thought was most interesting. He definitely knows the Mekong Delta and a lot of history about the war period.
