Huong Hai junk

We are visiting Vietnam in April and our tour company is booking us on an overnight Huong Hai junk in Halong Bay. I've heard mixed reviews and wondering if anyone has done it. What is the quality of the junk, are the crowds ridiculous etc? We're also planning on kyaking so any info on that would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Huong Hai is a reputable company with good quality junks.

You must specify that you want to do kyaking before you go (at booking time)and pay extra (about $15 - depending on your booking company).

Don't worry about crowds - it seems mad at the warf but once you get going you hardly see anyone else.

Just got back from Halong Bay. We used

www.Tropical-sails.com sail on the Dragon's Pearl Junk.

The food was worth the price of a ticket.

Its was so peaceful on the Bay after Hanoi.

We did the 3 day 2 night tour of Halong Bay.

We also did kayaking, the lunch on this beach was so surreal. only some kayakers pass by this all natural shell beach.

If you have more question email me.

We (3 adults & 1 child) went on an overnight trip in a Huong Hai junk in June 2004. We were the only passengers onboard, and received very good service (staff-tourist ratio of 1:1). Junk was clean (though we did spot some mini roaches scampering over our cut fruits) and well-maintained.

Both Huong Hai Junk and Dragon Pearl are fine. If you like crowded/noisy atmosphere. Dragon Pearl will be your choice (18 cabins). If you like less crowded and quiet atmosphere, Huong hai or Bai Tho Junks are the best. One of traveller said right...Some time there are few people on the junk boat. Hahaha, it means that you use private one but just pay less $$$$
