Time to reflect on our 17 day tour with Jason which is almost finished.

We have travelled from Saigon, down to the Mekong Delta over the mountains to Dalat. Flown from Nha Trang to Da Nang and flown from Hue to Hanoi and travelled to Halomg Bay.

Jason booked the internal flightsand also five of the hotels which we had selected and we booked three hotels because we could get them cheaper. The seats on all the flights were the best seats up the front. The hotel rooms he booked for us were all front rooms and included two upgrades. The rooms were a much much better than we could of got from a package provider in Australia.

His attention to detail cannot be over emphasised. He provided cold bootles of water, face towels, cushions in the Benz and even flashlights for thr Cu Chi Tunnels. He will even provide us with a cd of over 1000 photos he took on the trip. Better shots than ours.

He knows Vietnam well and communicates well with his guests.

Out of 6 people we have one who only eats salad, one not keen on Vietnamese food and one who cannot tolerate garlic and he handled it very well.

Have a million stories to tell but he is one hell of a tour guide.

Give him a try if you a good local tour guide for Vietnam.

Thanks for your info,

I just wonder which company Jason work for? He is Vietnamese or Westerner?

Sound like a good guide.

Cheers,

RayL

I too spent 5 days in May-Jun this year with an energetic, interested, ambitious and attentive interpreter/guide. (we all know who, it's--Ja* Ng*--but are forbidden to mention the name least the self appointed critics that lurk here become aroused). I then took a prearranged tour company packaged tour (four people) thru the Mekong Delta and up the river to Phom Phen. I was very impressed with the private interpreter/guide. The tour company did a good job too-but it wasn't a personal adventure like being with the privateer was. My visit to VN was not purely tourism. I had some 1960's friends and places to try and find and reconnect with. I really needed an interpreter/guide who was willing to step out of his comfort zone and help me try to find some people and some places that were well off the familiar tourist trail. The only place my interpreter/guide discouraged me from going was Ban Me Thout in the central highlands. I guess the Locals there kept on fighting for years after the south folded and there remains some tension there to this day. This on top of the age old predujice the Southerners have for the "savages" and vice versa probably justifies the reluctance.

After this trip I consider Ja* Ng*, His mother(teacher & singer)and sister (college student) to be friends in a far away place. I am grateful for the help that was afforded to me by the Nguyens and am willing to share via email details with adults seriously planning a trip to VN.
