I can recommend Charlie's Scandanavian restaurant in Kata centre. For great BBQ Australian steaks, lamb no better place than the Coffee Pot (in the same street as Charlies)

Kata Minta restaurant & guesthouse (opposite the Serene resort) Kata for Thai dishes.

Penns restaurant the southern end of Kata beach next to the SKA Bar.

Cappricco's Italian restaurant Kata. We have been visiting this restaurant for 3 years & the pasta dishes as still excellent.

We also tried the After beach Bar this trip & the girls thought the Chicken & noodles was the best they had eaten. After beach Bar is before the Smallview Restaurant on the way up to Kok Chang.

All the tuk tuk drivers know where these places are.

Also at the After Beach Bar the guys will call a Tuk Tuk for you. Maureen

Hi CamiOhio,

One thing I would say to you is do not base where you eat on cost....expensive does not necessarily mean good in Thailand.

We have found in Thailand that the more expensive places offer the kind of food that you could get in any Thai restaurant anywhere....all quite bland and tailored to suit tourists.

Where you are in Kata, you'll have loads of choice.....and don't be worried about going in somewhere that doesn't look too smart, you'll generally find that the food is excellent.

We've only been disappointed a few times food wise in Phuket, at Baan Rim Pa and Ratri (although I think Ratri has improved).

-James.

Jambomccotter, Hi! My husband and I are not afriad to try "mom & Pop" type of places. In fact, some of our favorite meals in Costa Rica were in small little family owned places. Just curious, what did you not like about Baan Rim? I was thinking abut going there, but if it is not good then I don't want to waste my time. I can't say "Thank You" enough for all of the advice. This is my first time to Thailand and I really want it to be great.

CamiOhio,

We had a couple of issues with Baan Rim Pa:

1. Service - I took my wife there as a surprise for her 30th birthday, which I had informed Baan Rim Pa about in advance. So I went with the intention of spending a nice relaxed evening there enjoying the views and listening to the pianist etc....However, as soon as we finished our main courses staff were hovering about us with the bill and made it quite obvious that they wanted our table as soon as possible!

2. The food itself we felt was also nothing to get excited about....small portions and not a great deal of flavour. It was well presented etc but just didn't live up to my expectations for a restaurant which has such a decent reputation.

I have no doubt that other people who have ate there will tell you it was amazing, but it just didn't do it for me.

Hope this helps.

-James.

Hi there, I just got in from Kata, we stayed at a fab villa right next door to Mom Tri's, it was called Baan Saleah www.baansaleah.com. We loved to eat at the villa as the staff are fab cooks. Don't eat at Katathani - food a bit, well, mass produced. Love eating in the village - there is a great pizza place. Also if you into coffee go to Summer - it is really cute. You will be staying were the food is good. Love the food at Mom Tri - especially at lunch time overlooking the sea. Joes south is great too - love their burgers... yummo... let me know if you wana know anything else.
