7000-10000 Baht for 2 weeks for the simple Suzuki jeep, about 12000-14000 Baht for the automatic car like Toyota Vios or Honda Jazz. Petrol is easy to get, and driving is pretty easy and safe, just try to drive not too fast and watch around for motorbikes. It's a great idea to get a car and explore the island to see its beauty.

charlotte If you need to rent a jeep contact CH TOURS THEY HAVE A wEB SITE . Rates are very reasonable 700 bahts a week(negetionable) . The vehicles we have had have been well maintained . The cost comes with full insurance . Martine and her Thai husband are very nice people and will pick you up at the airport with the jeep . Enjoy your holiday Andy

Has anyone ever had an accident and the insurance kicked in

When we rented everything was included for 800Bht per Day

They held our passport but i am wondering what would have happened if there had been an accident regarding return of passport

Would love to hear from someone who has had an experience

You should never leave your passport,a copy is fine but never leave the actual one.If they won`t accept that move on to another hire place.

Chances are if you had an accident basically you would have been held to ransom because they fully know you can`t do diddly squat without your passport hence as I said never leave it.

Did anyone see the programme on holiday insurance last week ? A young English lad nearly had to have his leg amputated after a motor bike accident in Samui and the insurance wouldn't pay as his " bog standard " policy didn't cover him for driving anything over 800cc. So please make sure your holiday insurance will cover you.

Please don't drive motorbikes on Samui if you don't have experience with bikes, or try to drive very slowly. Samui has A LOT of accidents every single day, and most of the times it's foreign people, who don't pay attention to sand on the roads -it's kinda everywhere now because of building works, and watch out for other bikes and speeding cars.
