Hi Doc Tremblay and all others who are so helpful on the Chiang Mai forum!
My partner and I will be in Chiang Mai for four nights at the end of this month. We are staying at Yaang Come Village and have booked a day at Elephant Nature Park on Sunday. We would like to shop in Chiang Mai for handicrafts, silk, wood furniture, housewares, etc., but we are both a little intimidated about the process. Some books suggest that it's better to have a shopping guide/driver go with you, to drive in the city and to show you shops that are perhaps "off the tourist path." However, I've also seen some notes on this site that suggest that booking such a service directly through the hotel might *not* be the best way to go. Any advice about locating a good shopping guide/driver, and how to contact him or her prior to our stay?
Thank you in advance for any and all recommendations!
