My husband and I are considering adding some days to the northern part of our itinerary. We are currently booked from Feb. 5-9 in Chiang Mai. Our itinerary ideas are below...should we add more days in Chiang Mai, or go to Chiang Rai? We could add 3-4 nights. We are not interested in elephants, rafting, or trekking.
Currently, we arrive on Weds, Feb. 5th at 1:25pm, and plan to putter around and get acquainted on the first 2 full days, visiting markets and things in town.
On Friday the 7th, we hope to rent a motorcycle (husband currently drives in NYC and is getting int'l drivers license) and go to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and surroundings (maybe Pui Ping Palace, Doi Pui village...going to keep it loose but looking to explore and open to ideas).
On Saturday the 8th is the Flower festival which we are pretty excited about, then night market.
We are scheduled to leave the following day (Sunday) for Ao Nang...should we stay longer, and if so, where? I like the looks of Wat Rong Khun near CR, but would love some advice. If staying in CM, I would like to see the big sunday night market, consider taking a cooking class, and the nearby arts and crafts villages. I read there is an artist community near CMU in the Wat Umong area and am curious about that (I work in the arts).
We definitely want to fly out of Chiang Mai, so if we added CR or something else, we'd need to return to CM.
What do you think, tripadvisors?
