Overnight trip from Bangkok

Hi Experts,

I will be travelling through Thailand with my parter and some friends in April and need bit of advice in regards the Bangkok part our trip. The latter part of the holiday includes Chaing Mai, island hopping and excursions however we need help planning the beginning few days.

The pair of us arrive in Bangkok on a Tuesday, whilst the rest of our party arrive on the Saturday. We figure two days in town is plenty, and with our friends in Bangkok for the weekend, they will be the two days. We figure as soon as our plane lands in Bangkok (from Europe) we may as well enjoy few days elsewhere as 6 days in the city may prove too much. So we will probably spend Tuesday night in Bangkok to acclimatise, 2-3 days away and return for the weekend.

Any suggestions of a nice town or beach destination not too far from Bangkok that is affordable (plane preferably) , accessible and recommended?

Thanks!

Hi

With just only 2-3 nights Hua Hin ( you can travel by train or car 2 hours from Bangkok )Thai beach town it would the ideas. Or Pattaya just over an hour by car transfers from Bangkok another beach town for party. Or if you're interested on natures, history then head to kanchanburi. In kanchanburi (2 hours) from Bangkok, you can stay in the river house rafts.

Cheers,

"Pattaya is 2 hours away by cheap bus or taxi. Beach is not too good for swimming but many hotels have pools. Much cheaper than Bangkok.

Unless affordable to you must include flying somewhere.

Hua Hin or Pattaya for beach, also consider Kanchanaburi or Ayutthaya.

Wow, some nice ideas guys. Thanks for the responses.

Pattaya seems an obvious favourite, so will have a good look at hotels there.

Bangkok is a fascinating city with SO much to see and do, it's actually a shame that you want to restrict your time there to only 2 days. You'll be getting enough of island and touristy beach resorts during the rest of your trip. In addition, there are plenty of day-trips you could make from Bangkok if you really do think the city itself is too overwhelming, but really 4 or 5 days in Bangkok is hardly enough to get a superficial idea of the high points. You could visit a different neighbourhood each day for 5 days and see only a part of what that neighbourhood has to offer.

I agree that just adding another beach is a shame when there is so much to do in Bangkok. We've been several times and plan to go again this June/July and have 5 days fully scheduled and still not enough time to fit everything in.

The difficultly is that our friends will want to stay over the weekend. 6 consecutive days out of our 15 spent in one city seems a bit of wasted when there is so much of Thailand we could explore, in my opinion.

We will be arriving and departing from Bangkok and will spend a good 4 days in total of our trip there. We know like minded people who have been and say this is more than enough for our needs.

We're now considering Koh Chang for some sightseeing in the beginning of our trip.
