Waiting near Bangkok airport...

Hey,

My girlfriend and I are planning our first trip to Thailand together in September... I am flying from the UK and she is flying there from New Zealand, but my flight arrives 9 hours before hers does... I was wondering whether this is time enough to make it into town and back to meet her, or perhaps easier, whether there is anything worth seeing near-ish the airport so I don't have too stray to far?

I'm assuming you're arriving at Suvarnabhumi. If so, you're in luck. Not much to see around the airport, but easy enough to take the train into town and kill some time. This link will give you all the info you need:

Hi,

Yes, you will have time to make it into the city proper and back. There are some malls which are not too far from the airport but you could (depending on the location of your hotel) take the Airport Rail Link/Skytrain into the city and check in to your hotel and drop your bags off etc.

The ARL operates from 06.00 to midnight. Here is a route map:

You could bring your bags to the hotel, even take a shower. That way when you go back to the airport you will only have her bags to contend with. Airport Rail Link connects with the Skytrain. If your hotels are near the Skytrain stop you can get there pretty cheap.

If your plan is not to stay in Bangkok once the girlfriend arrives, the airport has a left luggage facility where you can keep your things while taking the train downtown and back.
