2 great nights out |
Hi, We have two evenings free in our itinerary where we dont have to get up early the next day and therefore want to sample Bangkok at its best! I have been researching and we will definately try Vertigo,Sirocco and BED supperclub for the experience but at their prices it will be one or two drinks then will move on(or end up in). Any other cheaper choices with a great vibe? We like a whole range of music,we do like dance, but mainly would like to get the most out of being in Bangkok having never been before. We will of course have a nosey around Patpong but is this somewhere we we can stop to have a drink or not? Btw it is myself and my husband both mid thrities and we are staying in the Sukhunvit area, and we aren't interested in nightmarkets. Thanks |
Glampuss, have you got Suan Lum on your agenda? unless it gets closed before you go it's worth a visit despite the night market. There's a large "beer garden" with a retractable roof where local bands ply their trade hoping to get spotted. The drinks are less than half the price of most of Bangkok and some really good cheap food.
Hello, no I haven't heard of it,but then again I am not researching any night markets,it really isn't my thing. You dont say what area it is in and I would be wanting nightlife not too far away from the bars I have mentioned and also if there are any good bars/clubs near where we are staying in Sukhumvit. Thanks
Suan Lum is near Lumphini Park, easy to get to by taxi or underground.Where on Sukhumfit are you staying? it's a long road so it makes a difference. We stayed on Soi 5 off Sukhumfit last time and there are loads of bars within walking distance as I'm sure there are elsewhere.I understand that most of the "young" nightlife can be found on Kao San road,RCA(whatever, where ever that is)and other areas which some of the regulars to this forum might help with. Patpong is part of Silom night market and one of the infamous red light areas but you can get food and drink at one of the many small places there but at tourist prices.

tricky this as it depend what you are looking for in a bar. near to patpong my own preferences are the english bar duke of wellington, which is on silom road the opposite side to patpong, maybe opposite patpong or 100 yards along going away from lumpini park in the direction the sofitel is. it does a good happy hour and special offers most nights. the other side of patpong, on the same side of the road is convent road, easy to find as it has a big california wow fitness centre on the corner - this road has molly malones irish pub, popular but expensive, some trendy bars like coyote, and the noodle stall on the corner is reckoned to be by some the best in bkk. my own preferred pub is the patpong side of silom road underneath sal daeng skytrain - oreillys irish bar, which i think does reasonably priced and good food and has a good live band some nights on sukhumvit it depends where you are staying. soi 11 where bed supper club is, has in the first sub soi on the left the famous cheap charlies open air bar, which as the name suggests is cheap, and just down this sub soi is maybe my favourite bar in thailand, the pickled liver - an english sports, well football really, bar, with a good quiz thursday, a very amenable owner and really good cheap food - wonderful curries, and a local steak with chips goes for b220. soi 23, going down to and past soi cowboy is a good soi. on the right maybe 100 yards down is the aussie run bradmans small sports bar, which does super pies for b100, the ship inn almost opposite, which has gone downhill a bit recently, the queen victoria, which is vastly expensive (pie and chips here 3 times the price in bradmans )- you could opposite it nip into soi cowboy to experince the girlie gogo bars, or if you walked down the soi another maybe 400 yards come to a little square which has the chokchai steakhouse, doing some good meat dishes and another english sportsbar, the crossbar. if you walk along sukhumvit from soi 23 going toward the emporium on the opposite side of the road is the dubliner, which i've never liked, and back on the soi 23 side you soon reach the penalty spot, which is another sporty bar, but with some good live music and lots of hostesses - a strange mixture. a few hundred yards further along is the londoner, which brews it's own beer and lager and does extortionately priced food, and another couple of hundred yards brings you to the robin hood, which is very similar to oreillys, and down the soi at it's side is the bulls head, which my wife maintains does the best chicken kebab in the world. top night out in bkk is tawan daeng beer hall - get your hotel to book you a table on friday or saturday, ang get a taxi to take you there for 8.30 - much later than that and your table will be given away to peopple queueing outside. good live turns, getting better and more raucous as the night goes on and really good food and beer they brew onsite - it'll cost you a bit but it's a memorable night out.seats something like 1500 people and is rather like going back in time to one of the big working mens clubs like the famous one in Batley back in the late 60's Phew! any questions?
Thankyou both for your replies :-) Andyagain-Wow,fantastic post thankyou,I will be printing off your reply to take with us. We are staying at the Bel Aire Princess in Sukhumvit and will definately be trying as many of your suggestions as we can! Oh and any recommendations for a really good dance club for afterwards?
Glampuss, we're staying at Bel Aire Princess again from mid December,we've stayed at more luxurious hotels like Marriott and Royal Orchid Sheraton both on the river but much prefer the location of the Bel Aire. We're a different age group so didn't look for night clubs but you got some good suggestions from other posters. enjoy Bangkok,it's our 12th time to Bangkok(plus some of the Thai beach resorts) and don't feel like we've had a holiday unless we go to Bangkok.

Hi Glampuss, can you please make sure you do a report that tells how Vertigo and Sirocco are. Also the everage price of meals / drinks. We were thinking of going to one of them next trip but like you it will be a quick visit so any info you share will be greatly appreciated. Have a great trip cheers karin

i'm too old a codger to do dance clubs, but if you walk past bed to the t junction 100 yards or so along and turn left Q is on the corner facing you maybe 50 yards along, which has been super trandy. before you get to bed on soi 11 is a new dance venue you can't miss but i forget it's name. in the silom area www.superflybangkok.com i believe can transport you back to saturday night fever if you fancy strutting your stuff that way.

Suanlum, great to hear you stay at the Bel-Aire,it suits us fine for our needs during the stay and is really close to the skytrain station which was a requirement of ours. Aussie,Hi. I am not going until April but I certainly will be posting a JBR and I will fill you in.I cant wait to try these skybars they will be the highest ones we have ever been to! Andyagain, thanks you are a mind of info! I shall my eyes peeled for those too :-)

Try Bed Supperclub and their dinners there. 1495Baht per person for a 3 course meal. A great experience and then after continue on in the club and enjoy the rest of your night there.
