Travelling to Bangkok in August. Which would be the best location to stay for good restaurants/bars/shopping/etc? Also, any recommendations for a nice hotel, there are so many to choose from I don't know where to begin! It's our first trip ever without the kids (now teenagers!), so we'd like a hotel with nice rooms/bar/restaurant/pool, but not too expensive. We're not into stuffy 5* hotels, just something with good service that anyone can recommend. Thanks!

Hi if you are in for shopping then Pratanum is surrounded by cheap markets. We are here now and this is the chgeapest shopping area we have come across. Downside is it is about a 15 min walk to bts but plenty of tuk tuks and taxis. Accomadation in every range. We stayed at Baiyoke suites 1500bt, has own lounge room found it great. Booked out on our return and we are now at the Ramada DMA, about $120au , besides the extra toiletries, thought Baiyoke suites was in better location (markets on doorstep in every direction) and not much difference in rooms .

Hi

I stayed at Lebua by the river last year and that was great. Huge rooms with great views from the 50th floor :-) What kind of price range are you thinking about? A couple of weeks back I stayed at Sheraton on Sukhumwit road and that is a pretty good location. As long as you get close to a BTS or subway station you should be fine :-)

Is it your first time in Bangkok? I have a trip report that I can share with you if you are interested. Send me a mail on gardkarlsen@hotmail.com and I'll send it to you :-)

Regards

All depends on your budget. Yes stay near BTS or subway, will save you a ton of time. Suk area is good for first timers, has more english spoken there than most areas.

We're stayin at the Bel Aire Princess, Is this a good base for exploration? We've only got 4 days in Bangkok, what's the best way to get around?
