Has anyone used a tour company called Active African Vacations before? If so, would you recommend it? I am planning a Gorilla trek tour with them in Uganda in February 2012.

It must be one of the first growing companies in Uganda, On my trip in Uganda i was supposed to sleep in paraa safari lodge but most of the rooms w booked by Active African vacation. Then my ground handler had to change my accommodation to Nile safari lodge.

My Wife and I spent 2-1/2 weeks in Uganda this past January (2011). I can't recommend AAS and Billy Ssali highly enough. We had a great trip and the gorilla experience was unbelievable - one of the truly unique highlights of my life. Billy was a great host and guide. He took care of us, we felt safe and he is knowledgeable. We plan on going back in a year or so. If you like water sports try the Nile white water raft trip. I do white water and that trip was one to remember. Go with AAS you won't regret it.

My wife, 2 kids and I did a gorilla safari in Uganda earlier this year organised by Active Africa Vacations. We had an amazing experience and also did white water rafting which was organised last minute. I have recommended this tour company to several of our friends already.
Edited: 4:20 am, August 04, 2011I would absolutely recommend them. Ssali (our guide) was so knowledgeable and kind. He really catered to anything we asked of him. He really wanted to make our experience the best and in the end, what more can you ask of any organization?
Make sure you spend time with the gorillas. Ssali will get you in close so you can see the real deal. Trust me, you can not go wrong by working with Active African Vacations.
I also used Active African Vacations when I was in Uganda in December 2010. I cannot recommend them enough. My guide, Billy, was just wonderful. He was very accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. I want to bring my elderly parents back with me next time because I know they would enjoy it and I would 100% trust Billy.
I thought the highlight of my trip was going to be hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro. But without a doubt, my experience seeing the Gorillas, as well as Uganda on a whole, was far and away my highlight. This country and its people stole my heart. Head there before this little known secret gets out....and definitely use Active African Vacations.
We traveled to Uganda earlier this year. Billy, from Active African Vacations was our guide and driver. We had the vacation of our dreams. Billy is very professional and knowledgeable. He took very good care of us and we felt safe at all times. He handled all of the arrangements and reservations necessary for our trip. There were no unexpected surprises or costs. We went on safaris, saw the gorillas and the chimpanzees. Uganda is a beautiful country. Everywhere we went the people were very kind and friendly. We are planning on returning to Uganda in the future. We will ask Billy to be our guide and driver once again. I would give Active African Vacations 5 stars.
Thanks for all your feedback.
Apart from Monker25, the rest of the 7 feedback were posted within this week. Of all 7 people who gave feedback, 5 of them only joined tripadvisor this week. Further, all 7 of them have only made 1 post each within tripadvisor (i.e. the only feedback they made are related to my question about Active African Vacations).
Whilst I appreciate your feedback, I will take your recommendations with a grain of salt and undertake further research. Having said that, I cannot conclude that Active African Vacations is a bad company just because I feel skeptical about the recommendations.
Billy Ssali was our driver/guide throughout Uganda and Rwanda last summer, and he's excellent! He is an honorable, trustworthy gentleman, well-mannered and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I highly recommend him and his tour company.
