A lot of people worry when they go to Mauritius half board that their drinks are going to be really expensive, especially at Belle Mare Plage.

I work for a travel company called Mahlatini so I got this good news through at the end of last week. Belle Mare Plage are trying these drinks prices out on trial until the end of August. Lets hope they decide to keep them! (and even if they don't it gives you a good idea what prices are)

-Mini Bar

Snacks drop from Euro 4 to Euro 3

Beer from Euro 4.5 to Euro 2.8

Whisky from Euro 20 to Euro 14

-Main Bar

This area has also been revised and several commonly ordered drinks have been reviewed namely:

Beers from Euro 4.5 to Euro 2.8 (not bad really!)

Squeezed juice from Euro 4 to Euro 3

Coke from Euro 3 to Euro 2

Crystal water from Euro 3.5 to Euro 1.8

Imported Sparkling water from Euro 5.5 to Euro 4.5

Hot beverages from Euro 3 to Euro 2.5

Cocktails from Euro 8.5 to Euro 6.75 (this would be the one where I spent the most cash... they make incredible Mojitos at Belle Mare :D)

Also in regards to the wine menus a larger selection of wines in between Euro 19 to Euro 23 has been introduced. Wine per glasses has also been reviewed from Euro 6 to Euro 4.

Hope that give people advice who were worrying about breaking the bank :)

Thanks for the info, that is good news...

I was one of the ones who has had a little gripe on TA about the cost of drinks at the BMP (went there in April 08 for 30th wedding anniv... bt champagne 78 euros + tax, but being a special anniversary it had to be done!)

well at the moment these are just trial prices to see whether people will spend more if the drinks are cheaper...will give you all an update after the offer ends to see if they are going to keep the better prices :)

This is great news, Laura.

Thanks for the information. Hopefully the bar will be more lively with the new prices. They are cheaper than Dublin!!!

hi,

Some members aren't aware that there's a general Mauritius forum so but I posted the link to this thread on the local Poste De Flacq forum which covers the BMP. Hope you don't mind.

Here it is:

BTW for those new to the forum there is a page at the beginning called Traveller Articles which gives information on such things as weather, currency, tipping, where to go, and other valuable information. Very helpful for everyone.

The reduction proves the point that hotels are charging what they like and all the excuses about devaluation of the rupee which BMP management made to justify the high prices are just that...excuses!

Maybe we will see more realistic pricing in the future. If we moan more on forums such as this see what happens! They sit up and take notice!

And the same goes for pricing in euros. That was the excuse they gave; devaluation of local currency! Well now the rupees way up against all currencies, so prices should come down and they should scrap the euro pricing lark.

Hello I do hope the BMP keep the prices at these levels as I went there a couple of years ago with my adult children.

We had a fantastic holiday and could not fault either the hotel or any of the Golf facility but on return to the UK decide that we would not go their again simply due to the cost of the extras.

My son summed it up (dad was paying for the holiday) by saying that he felt guilty some times when he ordered a couple of drinks as he knew what it was going to cost me! The strange thing is that the problem was not affording the drinks it was the feeling that the price being charged was to much which gave a feeling of being ripped off!!!!

Hi,

After the last email I sent them with links to threads/forums complaining about the prices they have now sent me a follow-up email to confirm the prices of drinks have been 'revised'.

I'm happy enough with this, and it goes to show that complaining pays off!!!
