Yes, definitely. When i was living in the Gambia several years ago my parents excessively told me to take them. I didn't and ended up getting malaria. The tablets work and they are cheap in the gambia so there is no reason not to get them. If you get malaria on your trip it will ruin it. Its easier to take the meds.

Absolutely yes, and also use DEET and/or Incognito repellants, treated bed nets are relatively cheap and easy to pack, all used in conjunction are quite effective

The topic was started in December 2011 and then asked again on October 2012 by another person. Both parties have been answered by Olivia162 and Athletico in August 2013.

I think the two parties that asked the question have been and returned by now but it is still helpful to keep this in everyone's mind even if you don't agree with tablet taking.

Important to note Anti-Malerials don't stop you catching Malaria ,they give your body a back up if you should catch it ,

And remember their are different types of malaria in Gambia that wont kill you if you get infected they just make you very ill ,

So yes you must take the pills prescribed but don't think that every time you get a mossi bite you have to write your will ,iv had lotts and lotts and just accept that even though I take all the precautions they still get through ,the problem out here at the moment is FLIES thousands and thousands of them ,you have t watch out for any cuts etc as open wound act liks a magnet to them ,iv had two separate sessions on Anti-Biotics because of them infecting open wounds ,on my legs ,by wounds I just mean small cuts ,any cuts etc keep clean with detol etc and any sighn of infection seek help their are plenty of private clinics around that will trat you and it wont cost you a fortune ,
