Prices for tour in Ethiopia

We're planning a trip for two to Ethiopia in March 2013 and have received quotes of between $1800-$2500/person for the following itinerary, including flights, hotels, guides, entries etc... We are a little surprised by the prices. Any advice on both prices and itinerary?

Thanks

Day 1: landing at 01:00

Day 2: Addis city tour/Mount Entoto

Day 3: Morning flight to Gondar, Gondar Castle

Day 4-7: Siemien Hike

Day 8: Flight to Lalibela- Day touring Lalibela

Day 9: Lalibela-Mule/Horse trip to Yemrehanna Kristos

Day 10: Flight to Addis/Day in Addis

Day 11: Flight leaves at 01:00 am

I highly recommand you use car in lalibela to visit Yemerhanna Kirstos.

Yes prices are too high. try other firms eg Kibran/Dinkenesh/Timeless ethipia/ Ethiotourandtravel eTT itinerary is fine.

You dont NEED a tour company to do a trip like this. Can book flights yourself or via blueskyethiopia.com - an Addis firm who will book your local flights at local prices. Try them for full trip...

Simiens can be arranged in Gondar or Debark.

Have you got the Bradt Guide to Ethiopia 2012 edition (aimed at independent travellers) OR

Bradt Ethiopia Highlights also 2012- which is aimed at those using tour companies and lists many companies,

There are many posts in here, on Thorntree Ethiopia Forums and on Bradt Guides Ethiopia updates page recommending Simien guides.......
