24 hours sufficient for Victoria Falls?

Hello everyone. We would really like to visit Victoria Falls but due to the timings of our other flights can only do either 1 night or 2 nights (the latter would be a stretch) in Victoria Falls.

We are planning on staying at The Kingdom which based on the TA reviews is very close to Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side. We are flying in from JNB arriving at 12:35 PM and the flight departs on 1:25 PM either the following day (stay 1 night) or day after that (stay 2 nights).

We will have already spent 4 days in Balule Game Reserve near Kruger, 4 days in Cape Town, and 2 days in Jo'berg so we don't feel the need to do a lot of wildlife watching and are really there to experience the beauty of the falls. We also don't need to spend any time in casinos or whitewater rafting - we do plenty of the latter here and little of the former anywhere.

1. Is 1-24 hour period enough?

2.If we arrive at 12:35 PM at VFA, when should we expect to make it to the hotel by?

3. Is it reasonable to (a) check-in to our hotel, (b) walk to the falls - sounds like a 10 min walk from the hotel, (c) take a taxi to the Zambia side, (d) take another taxi to see the Zambia side, (e) return by the 6 PM closing time, (f) dine early and go to sleep early, (g) wake up early to watch the sunrise and go to the falls in the morning, (h) eat breakfast, (i) pack-up and head back to the airport?

Please note we will be visiting in late March. Thank you for your help.

Yes you can see the Falls in 24hrs, as from your post this is your primary objective. If only staying for this period of time, try not bring any checked luggage onto the plane, this means you can be first off the plane and into the Visa line if you need one first. Book a private transfer to The Kingdom, so you don't have to wait for other passengers. You should all going well be at Kingdom by 1:30pm. Time to Check in and then take a stroll down to the falls. Give yourself a minimum of 2 hours to see the falls, personally I would do the Zim side on your first afternoon, the sun setting in the west will be behind you giving better light for photo's and then doing the Zambian side the following morning, sun rising east so behind you. Your transfer time to the Airport on the last day will be 11am, so plenty of time to cross into Zambia.

Thank you John N. Your response is greatly appreciated. It seems you have posted on a number of other threads about bringing US currency to pay for items in Victoria Falls. How much money per person do you think we should bring to cover all expenses for one day (airport transfers, 3 meals, cabs, etc.)?

It sounds like we'll need to purchase a multiple-entry Zimbabwean visa and a daytripper for Zambia - is that correct?

Thank you again.

make sure you have enough money to pay for your visa's on arrival, you need to purchase a DOUBLE ENTRY visa on arrival at VFA as you will be leaving Zim to go to Zambian side of falls and returning to Zim, cost for US Nationals Double Entry Visa US$45 for Double Entry, Single Entry is US$30.

Kindom Hotel you can use a credit card to pay for extra's. at both Barclays and Standard Bank ATMs you can withdrew US$500 per card per day. Both these are within 100 yards of Kingdom Hotel.

Private Airport Transfers are US$30 per person, best to pre book if going this route.

Entry Fee into Vic Falls Zim Side is US$30 and Zambian Side US$20.

Day Visa for Zambia US$20

Taxis within town, from hotel to falls, Zambian border ect are approx US$5-10 one way, but negotiate.

Best to bring about US$200 per person in 5,10 & 20 Denominations if you run short can top up at the ATM's

We are doing this trip also. Who would you recommend to book the transfers and tours with. The company I contacted doesn't take credit cards, and I feel uncomfortable to send a bank transfer

A number of Zimbabwean operators can take credit payments, but only at the point of sale: ie at their local sales office. Wire/telegraphic transfers are done all the time, and invoices/vouchers are issued and can be emailed to you on confirmation of payment. Not sure who you have contacted in Victoria Falls but there are anumber of reputable operators that can assist you in this.
