Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp late June - 5 nights too much?

We will be travelling to Tanzania and Rwanda in late June, then to Kenya in early July. Our basic itinerary is below. My main question is whether 5 nights at Nomad Serengeti would be too much of the same thing? We focused on the western corridor due to the migration likely passing through there in late June. As an alternative to 5 nights at Nomad, we could break it up and do 3 nights at Pioneer Serengeti Camp (soutwest) and 2 nights at Nomad (west). Any comments welcome!

1 night Arusha on arrival

2 nights Exploreans Ngorongoro

5 nights Nomad Serengeti Safari

1 night Serena Kigali on arrival in Rwanda

3 nights Virunga Lodge (Mountain Gorillas, monkeys)

1 night Kigali before departure for Kenya

8 days volunteering in Kenya (+ 2 game drives in Masai Mara)

Pioneer Camp is probably too far south for end-June.

You might want to break up your time at Nomad's Serengeti which you indicate will be in the West, combine with Lemala Ewanjan in the Central area.

No one has any idea how long the herds will remain in the West, before they start to more north. But know that when the herds get to Central (from the south) they often split, with one group heading to the West, the others head North.

Combining these two areas/camps might be a better choice. Discuss w/ your tour operator.

Concluding in the Serengeti, can I assume you will be flying via Coastal to Kigale? If not, then how getting between countries?

Thanks a lot! We will look into Lemala and other options in Central. We need to make a decision very shortly, as things are very booked up already, especially in the Western Corridor. If we don't find a good complimentary option in Central with availability, we may just do 4 nights at Nomad and then move on to Kigali.

We will be flying to Kigali, yes. Our agent hasn't told us which airline.

Also, if we go straight to Western Corridor from Ngorongoro, then we will fly. If we go from Ngorongoro to South or Central, then we may drive (with guide)...not sure yet.

Is Lemala Ewanjan driving distance to Nomad Serengeti in late June? Is there any point in switching if we will be in the same general area?

After having read some posts from 4sandi, mfuwe and others, it sounds like 5 nights in the West may be just fine, as we are major wildlife people and will see new things every day. We are very attracted to Nomad's private safari experience and it seems to have very experienced guides with good vehicles. The Lemala in-house safari experience has pretty poor reviews.

Our tour operator's opinion was that Pioneer in the Southern Serengeti (within the Moru Kopjes area) has excellent game viewing year round and is driving distance to Seronera for game viewing as well. However, due to limited availability, we would have to start in the West. So we would fly from Ngorongoro to Serengeti Safari Camp (3 nights); then drive south to Pioneer Camp for 2 nights in the Southern area. And then fly from Seronera to Kigali.

Does anybody else have comments/experience on game viewing in the Southern Serengeti (within the Moru Kopjes area) in late June? Likewise, any comments on splitting time between Nomad Serengeti Safari and Lemala Ewanjan?

Then spend the 5/nts at Nomad's Serengeti and forget Pioneer.

And your TOs comments 'in his/her opinion there should be good game at Moru' well there maybe, but then maybe not... (there's never any guarantee), but by end-June farther north at Central or West would be better. And Nomad's will sure do game drives that are best for game viewing. Nomad's doesn't disappoint.

Also know that there is no airstrip at Ngoro (that being used as it's often fogged in),, so you'd have a transfer drive back 2/hrs to Lk. Manyara to fly to the West (Nomads). And, then if you did include Pioneer... who would be driving you to this camp and back to Seronera for flight to KGL.

Unfortunately already at this date, availability is an issue (June-Sep), especially for consecutive nights.

Thanks a lot, 4sandi. I really appreciate you taking the time to provide comments. We are going to heed your advice and stick with Nomad's Serengeti. The private game drives, superior guides and migration in late June were the determinents. We chose to cut that portion to 4 nights, as 5 nights seemed like a bit much. We depart in June and our itinerary now looks like this.

1 night River Trees Arusha (dinner & overnight)

2 nights Exploreans (will do 1 full day in the Crater)

4 nights Nomad Serengeti (game drives)

1 night Serena Kigali (direct fly in from Serengeti)

3 nights Virunga Lodge (2 gorilla treks, 1 golden monkey trek)

1 night Serena Kigali (overnight before flight next day to Nairobi)

1 night Nairobi

8 nights elsewhere in Kenya volunteering / immersing in local communities (added in 2 safari drives in Masai Mara and a trip to the Daphne Sheldrick elephant santuary)

1 night Nairobi (on way out)

We'll do a 2 or 3 day stay in Amsterdam on flight in or out, as we go through there anyway. VERY excited about this trip (of a lifetime). Thanks again.
