We will be coming off a safari at Londolozi the first week of August 2008 and want to spend the following week at the beach. Any thoughts on either location? Any thoughts on resorts as well? We liked the Baynan Tree online but don't have much info on either islands.

We like to have a beautiful beach, no kids, private but with things to do if we choose. Thanks!!

I would say Seychelles over Mauritius for a 'quieter' destination....August in Mauritis is also locals school holidays and we found the beaches very busy there whereas in the Seychelles could find a nice quiet area from the many choices of beaches...have a look at the island resort pages...

seychelles.travel/en/…island_resorts.php

and the spa hotels

seychelles.travel/en/…spa_hotels.php

and the large hotels links

seychelles.travel/en/…large_hotels.php

On the island of La Digue there is the wonderful beach of Anse Source d'argent........it is magical..and it was our favourite island....there are two nice accommodations and this first one is only a 5 minute walk from the beach. The good thing with this island is that there are options accessible if you want them like boat trips to nearby islands which we easily organised on arrival or hire a bike to explore the island or enjoy the beautiful beach.

L'union estate beach chalets and the La Digue Island Lodge. Here is the website:

Hey LJ72,

We are getting married in sept 2008. We are also considering a week in africa and week in seychelles. How did you choose Londolozi? Any other suggestions?

Ditto here. We're planning on honeymooning in SAfrica, doing Cape Town and likely Sabi Sabi for our safari. Fiancee desperately wants to do the Seychelles, but I'm looking at something closer to South Africa to reduce overall time on a plane. LJ72, what will your flight itinerary be from SAfrica to the Seychelles, i.e., what airlines and through what countries? I can't find a convenient way to get from SAfrica to Seychelles, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

Hi

I travelled to the Seychelles 5 years ago and I will always remembered our stay inn Silhouette island.

It s a volcanic island next to Mahe and you have access to it by helicopter only. There are 20 bungalows for 15 miles of beach. Perfect for honeymooners. It is nevertheless a little bit expensive but it's woth everysingle dime.

Hello

I'd consider posting in the Mauritus forum too, to get the opinions there. Also perhaps search both forums as this question gets asked a lot.

I visited both Mauritius and the Seychelles (Praslin) last October. We enjoyed both, but they are quite different. Mauritius is one relatively large island and is more commercialised but still very beautiful. The Seychelles are more laid back and have that island feel. We felt the Seychelles were better for scenery but that Mauritius was much better value - hotels are better quality and there is more choice.

Obviously this is a personal thing. I've only been to each country once and can't claim to have seen that much of either. But I would say that they aren't simple substitutes and it's worth thinking about exactly what you want from your holiday. Cost might turn out to be a factor too depending on how much you have to spend.

Hope that helps.

We were in both Mauritius and Seychelles in the month of August when it is also the school holidays and it was hard to find a beach that was private and not children whereas in the Seychelles we went to beaches for hours where we didn't see other people at all, so maybe something to go for Seychelles favour as beautiful as Mauritius is.

I got married in the Seychelles 10 years ago and have been back twice a year ever since. The Seychelles is the place to go for honeymooners. If you like to go self catering try Le Petit Village, for hotels the Banyan Tree is superb although it is an hour south of the main part of the Island.

There are lots of new hotels on the islands, visit www.seychelles.travel/en/home/index.php for the latest news.

Good luck and enjoy!

Hi,

I'm in a very similar position in that my fiancee and I would like to spend roughly a week in Cape Town/Game Reserve and another week in either Mauritius or Seychelles. We'll be travelling in mid to late July. Can anyone discuss weather in both countries at that time. It appears as if the Seychelle will be warmer. Also, are there any online travel agencies that people recommend for Sun/Safari Honeymoons, I have been unable to find any good one's so far. Thanks.

Hi LJ72

I would also love to hear how you decided on Londolozi for your safari. My fiance and I were booked to Safari in Masai Mara and then a beach extension in Mombasa from July 20th to early August. But due to recent developments we have decided to change destination and visit at a safer time. I would love to book the same sort of experience and currently looking at Kruger followed by Seychelles. But as others have mentioned I am concerned about the weather in SA.

Good luck with your search.
