Chouma (Shame)

Hello

my guidebook says that if I'm persitently harassed on the street I should yell Chouma. It just strikes me as odd to yell shame. Is this really done?

Thanks.

1. Re: Chouma (Shame)

yes, its done...but the correct pronunciation is hachouma (hashooma).

Moroccans use this word a lot to denounce bad behaviour - whether it be from a child or adult. It is shameful for anyone to harrass tourists, so this is by far the most appropriate thing to say.
