Take sterling and change once you are there. You will get a much better rate, including in arrivals at the airport, than you will in the UK. Don't be afraid to ask them to change a few larger value notes down for you so that you have some small notes to start with too.

from the top questions box should help. Many visitors don't bother bringing currency at all and just use the ATM's.

You should always take a certain amount of cash as a back up - what does one do if the cards are lost?

I always take cash which I rarely dip into but also take 2 debit cards and also as a last resort, a credit card.
