Hi,

Christmas and New Year is one of the very busiest (and can be one of the most expensive) times of the year in Marrakech. Have a look through the rated restaurants via the tab at the top of the page to see what sort of thing is available. Book early, the beginning of December is best as many of the popular places get booked up. Your hotel will lay on special dinners and entertainment etc for both dates.

For a cheaper option the square is always fun at New Year with fireworks at midnight and hoards of people out celebrating (Moroccans love any excuse to party and happily call out "Bon annee" for at least two weeks before the actual day!)

Hi,

The above post number 7 may well be quoting an article but the reality in Morocco is that all faiths are respected and tolerated. We have a Christian church in Marrakech as do many other places here.

SethnLyn, I have no idea why so many posts have been deleted as your question was more than reasonable. Now that you are here the question of what is happening in Marrakech on New Years Eve and into 2014 is still relevant. If you can visit the main square, Djemma al Fna, in the evening - it really is the place to be! Busy, even packed, yes, but lots of fun. Most restaurants will be fully booked by now but there are many nearby café/restaurants in which tables become available as the evening progresses. There will be a short firework display after midnight. One note of caution however - make sure that your taxi is booked for your return to the hotel and that you have prearranged a time and transfer cost. Trying to catch a petit taxi from the medina can be problematic.
