Easiest area to drive to and stay in Marrakech?

I am currently doing a van trip in Morocco (and europe). We would like to visit Marrakech (after we leave Taghazout) but are concerned with driving into Marrakech itself. Can anyone suggest an area to stay on the outskirts which we may find easily, and be able to catch taxis into the centre from please?

Thank you kindly :)

There are several centres to Marrakech. The most outlying is the Palmeries. Within the Ville Nouvelle (New Town) the main hotel district is called Hivernage. However to experience the ancient Marrakech then visit the walled medina. There are parking areas within supervised by guardians. Try the Kasbah quarter to the south or better still Riad Larousse in the north west. Saves on the hassle and prices of taxis and you will be at the real centre of the city!

Thank you for the information. All noted and should be useful. We wanted to try and avoid actually driving into the medina, or the centre or Marrakech for that matter (considering other comments i've seen posted online) and rather to find a hotel not too far away to visit the centre from (via taxi and/or on foot). I'll certainly take a look at your suggestions.

Thank you :)

if you want somewhere that is central but away from the main traffic of Gueliz and the Medina then have a look at hotels in Hivernage or Agdal

if you want somewhere out of town then there are options in the Palmeraie or Route Ourika/Amizmiz - although you will spend a fair bit on taxis in that case.
