Forthcoming trip

Hi all,

Me 7 my mum are coming to Marrakech for the first time in September. Any tips advice anyone can offer?

Also we want to visit the main square in the evening which stalls would people recommend to eat/drink at?

Many thanks

Number 14 is extremely popular with locals and is one I often eat at if the queue for seats is reasonable.

Number 1 is popular with tourists. Be aware that each little bowl of sauce, olives, bread, etc is chargeable.

Many thanks for your replies, are the stalks clearly numbered and in numerical order?

Also where would you recommend in the main square to eat/drink both day and night to watch the world go by?

Hi,

The stalls all have numbers usually up near the cook but no, they are not sequential which makes it fun trying to find a specific one. Aicha number one is on the far north east corner.

Café de France has a great terrace but is pretty awful for food so buy a drink and watch from there or Café Glacier also has great views. Aqua is not bad at all for lunch and Les Terraces d'Alhambra has a decent menu. The three cafes on the south east corner are also good.

Also number 73 (or is it 75?) for the traditional harira soup at 3.5dh/bowl.

Many thanks again.

Will be ok to sunbathe on the terrace in our Riad (not topless!!)?

Also are there places in the medina where you can buy soft drinks? what about wine or beer?

Hi,

If the weather permits you can certainly sunbathe on the terrace of your Riad.

Loads of little hanouts (kiosk shops) sell soft drinks and all the basics, the shopkeepers are honest guys and they are a great source of small change, always pay with a large note as change can be hard to come by.

For alcohol you have to go to one of the supermarkets, Acima, Marjane and Carrefour or the Marche Central in Gueliz. There are also many little alimentation shops in the new town which sell alcohol. Your male Riad staff should be able to help.

Wunderground can give you lots of info on temperatures in previous years on the dates you are travelling but weather is never 100% predictable, sadly wunderground.com/cgi-bin/…

Have a look at "Weather Information" under Top Questions on the right hand side of the page for extra info
