Thanks for the link, Shimmin, I will certainly visit when I'm next in Morocco.

The website could do with a map showing the location of Oumnas. To reach the village you exit Marrakech heading south west on the R203 as if you are going to Ouirgane/Asni area. Just after an Oilibya fuel station on the right the road forks and the main R203 goes to the left, you need to go straight on signposted probably Lake Lalla Takerkoust. You carry on past the Hotel Eden Andalou and after another 10-12km the village is on the left.

It would make a interesting day out from Marrakech if combined with a visit to the Lake which is another 5km or so down the road.

The road out to Oumnas/Takerkoust is better known as 'Route D'Amizmiz' - if anyone is going out that way then I recommend a stop off at Dar Zagora, an art collective:

Wonderful food as well. Watch the donkeys play while you eat on the terrace!

Fantastic, another must see on my list. Kudos to all who help these beautiful creatures. As a supporter of SPANA, and having visited their centre in Marrakech on my last visit to Morocco, they do a great job. I have also visited donkey sanctuaries in the UK and will be visiting another in France this summer. If I could have a couple of donkeys of my own to care for I would, just need to move to Morocco for that though!

Donkeys are working animals.

It's not that long ago that the Welsh used ponies down the coal pits who never saw the light of day, so all protestations of good treatment in the UK are fairly recent.
