Indeed it is a fine contribution from Saqawm. The original post can still be viewed.

However, responses regarding theft on public transport have been deleted.

Here are some tips and advice regarding personal safety.

These tips of course apply wherever you go on holiday.

Of course most Moroccans are honest and helpful

However there will always be others who take advantage of the crowds.

Souks are like magnets for the petty thieves.

Pick pocketing and purse snatching occur and visitors should avoid making themselves conspicuous.

Don’t flash expensive jewellery or large sums of cash..

Use the hotel safe for valuables.

Carry a minimal amount of cash.

Pick pockets often work in a group.

If you are distracted by someone make sure you know where your belongings are..

Don’t leave your bag on a table or hanging on a chair in a restaurant.

Never let your credit card out of sight.

In the larger cities such as Tangier aggressive begging is common at ATMs.

Try to use ATMs inside buildings and banks and take a friend for added safety.

Taxi Drivers seem determined to weasel out more cash from visitors.

Insist the taxi driver uses the meter, or agree on a price before getting into any taxi.

Hope this helps

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday

Remember. The pick pocketing on public buses has become a relatively new problem in Marrakech , so great care must be taken if using a bus .

I was wondering if anyone was going to declare the 'Emperor's Clothes' idiom.

What's worrying is that others reading these posts will believe they there is some personal knowledge backing up the aspersions, for example, "In the larger cities such as Tangier aggressive begging is common at ATMs. Try to use ATMs inside buildings and banks and take a friend for added safety."

Au contraire, aggressive begging at ATMs is NOT commonplace in Tanger or elsewhere, and I have NEVER seen ATMs inside buildings. Spain yes, Morocco no.
