Did you not read all the answers already given on this thread?

Four days should be considered the minimum, five is better.

We've just returned from a 6 day/5 night round trip from Marrakech to Merzouga and we felt that we couldn't really have done it in any less time and enjoyed it. Obviously it is all down to personal choice (and we weren't travelling up to Fes) but I would honestly recommend two nights in the desert with one full day spent simply exploring the areas around Erg Chebbi.

We travelled from El Kelaa Mgouna down to Erg Chebbi in one day: visiting Todra Gorge; Oasis Museum at Ksar El Khorbat, Tinejdad and a few other short stops on the way. Setting off at 9am we didn't reach Erg Chebbi until 5pm. We then spent the night in a desert camp and the next day travelled around the area to see the fossil plains, a visit for tea and bread with a Nomadic family, Khamlia village with the fantastic Gnaoua musicians, the salt lakes, a stop out in the middle of nowhere for traditional madfounda (Berber pizza), tea with our guide's family and lots of stops for photos on the journey. Then back to camp so I could have a sand bath for my bad joints, an early dinner watching the sun set over the dunes, another night in a tent before setting off again the following day for Zagora.

We didn't do a camel trek to the camp (it would have taken over an hour and a half and my doctor would have gone mad at me) so we went there by 4WD in only 30 minutes and then the camels came over so I could have a more gentle little 45 minute trek around the nearby dunes.

It is all down to personal choice, as I said, but I am telling you what we did just so you understand that you have many options available to you and you don't need to jump straight in with the first tour you see. You are going to be covering long distances and seeing amazing sights so there is no point rushing things unnecessarily. Take your time and try to enjoy the whole experience!

Of course it is possible to do it in 2 days only - if you want sit 12 hours in the car, arrive late to Erg Chebbi, when it is dark so you cannot see much, then next morning before it is really light leave Erg Chebbi for to sit in the car about 6-7 hours and arrive to Fes tired, remembering only the road between Marrakech and Fes ...

Even 3 days are not enough if you wish to have a little better experience of this part of Morocco.
